SPEAKER INFO: Bennett Schliesman, SE Region Director, Wi Emergency Management:
Bennett Schliesman began his career in Emergency Management in 2000 as the Kenosha County Emergency Management/Homeland Security Director for 10 years. After 9 months as the Milwaukee Area Technical College's first Emergency Management
Director, he became the SE region Director for Wi Emergency Management in August, 2011. As SE Region Director, he coordinates, educates, and assists the eight SE Wi Emergency Managers on mitigation, preparedness, prevention, response, and recovery activities.
Prior to becoming involved in Emergency Management, he served as the assistant to the Kenosha County Executive, worked for Congressman Les Aspin, the WI Senate Majority Leader, and 6 years at the Wi (Aspin) Procurement Institute, helping Wi businesses sell their products and services to the Defense Department, and various Federal, State and local government agencies, and prime defense contractors.
Ben has a BS in Political Science and Economics from UW Parkside, and for a period attended Marquette University Law School and the UW Milwaukee Master's in Public Administration Program. He has been active in too many professional organizations to cover, including currently being Vice-chair of the SE Wi Homeland Security Partnership, and the EM Caucus chair of the SE Wi Healthcare Emergency Readiness Coalition, Region 7. He has served 2 two-year terms as president of the Wi Emergency Management Association. He has multiple certifications from the federal government, including FEMA, and is a Certified Emergency Manager by the State of WI.
