0.9102564102564102 Rio Grande Valley pharmacist and APRx member Joe Ochoa has been appointed to the American Pharmacies Board of Directors to complete the unexpired term of Hector "Buddy" De La Rosa.

Ochoa is in his 30th year of owning and operating Ochoa's Pharmacy in Edinburg, which includes two stores as well as Ochoa Medical Equipment and Supplies.

A 1975 graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, Ochoa is a longtime community and business leader in the Edinburg area, serving as mayor of the city from 1993-2003 and again from 2006-2009.

"Joe Ochoa is an outstanding leader who is highly respected by his peers in the Valley and beyond," APRx President Mike Gohlke said. "He is a strong supporter of our mission and is dedicated to our continued growth and success. We are fortunate to have him join our leadership."

Former TPA Manager Joins APRX Staff

In its ongoing mission to improve and expand services to members, American Pharmacies has hired a full-time, on-staff director of communications and member services.

Chuck Waters, formerly senior director of marketing and communications for the Texas Pharmacy Association, will be responsible for all marketing, member communications and websites for both APRx and the Texas Pharmacy Business Council. He will also play a major role in the development and maintenance of vendor service programs for members. The position of Member Services Director was vacated recently by the retirement of Kay Stroud.

Prior to working at TPA, he held management positions at Texas County & District Retirement System, Texas Classroom Teachers Association and the Texas Legislature. He holds degrees in journalism and public administration from the University of Arizona in Tucson.
