Important CSM Volunteer Requests!


CSM Session Moderators

We are in need of volunteers to assist as moderators for the APTA Academy of Education sessions this year.

To participate as a moderator an individual must be registered for CSM. The moderators’ responsibilities will include:

  • Welcome the participants and give the title of the session.
  • Assist with questions per the speakers’ request.
  • Ensure the session ends on time.

We thank you for considering how you might be able to help.

Education Academy Session Moderators

The Research Committee of the Academy of Education is looking for volunteers to serve as moderators for the three Education Academy Platform Sessions at CSM. The sessions are 2 hours long and have seven presenting groups per session. The role of the moderator is essentially to get things started with a welcome announcement and introduce the speakers before they begin. Outside of that, moderators assist with transitioning from speaker to speaker and keep things on time. This is an excellent opportunity to get involved and build networks.

Session 1: Thurs 2/3 from 8-10 am - Most topics related to diversity, equity, inclusion in PT/PTA education.

Session 3: Fri 2/4 from 11-1pm - Potpourri of topics.

No experience is necessary. If interested, contact Michael Buck at mbuck@binghamton.edu.
Booth Volunteers Needed!

Assisting with the Academy of Education's booth at CSM is a great way to volunteer and meet other therapists in your field. Slots in one to two hour increments are available throughout the conference.

PTAE SIG Webinars

The PTA Education SIG Webinars through December 2021 are now available for viewing on the website. The January 2022 session will be available soon.

We will be on a very brief hiatus in February of 2022 to allow everyone to enjoy CSM! Remember that even if you can't make it to CSM in person, there is a virtual option this year, so hopefully you can view all the great content of CSM either in-person or virtually.

Please watch for upcoming announcements about our March and April webinars, we plan to finish off the '21-'22 webinar series with two more great webinars that you won't want to miss!

Cultivating the Habits at the Heart of Patient Care: Compassion, Vulnerability, & Imagination
The best clinicians know that caring well for patients requires more than technical skill. Yet, too often this “something more” is reduced to ideas about “soft skills” or “bedside manner.” As a result, qualities like empathy, vulnerability, and connection—that is, habits of the heart—are seen as extraneous to the “real” work of patient care. This talk aims to show how habits of the heart are not mere “add ons” to clinical care but are essential to the everyday practice of assessing, diagnosing, and treating patients—and asks us to consider whether and how these habits can be cultivated among current and future clinicians.
