CEO of America’s Public Television Stations Announced as PAR Annual Conference Keynote Speaker

The Public Affairs Research Council of Louisiana (PAR) is pleased to announce the Keynote Speaker for our 2023 Annual Conference and Luncheon is Patrick Butler, CEO and president of America's Public Television Stations. APTS is a nonprofit organization promoting the interests of noncommercial TV stations around the country.

Patrick Butler has been president and chief executive officer of APTS since January 1, 2011. Butler joined APTS after 18 years as senior vice president of The Washington Post Company, where among other duties he founded and led Newsweek Productions, which produced more than 200 hours of non-fiction programming, including "Watergate Plus 30: Shadow of History," winner of the Emmy Award for Best Documentary of 2003.

As Washington vice president of Times Mirror, the corporate parent of the Los Angeles Times and other media properties, Butler was a founder of the Times Mirror Center for The People & The Press, which revolved into the Pew Research Center, one of the world’s leading public opinion research institutions. 

Butler has an extensive history in government service including his time as special assistant to U.S. Senate Majority Leader Howard H. Baker, Jr. (R-TN) and advisor to the White House Chief of Staff during Baker’s service with President Ronald Reagan. He was chairman of the impeachment task force for U.S. Representative Lawrence J. Hogan (R-MD), a member of the House Judiciary Committee during its consideration of articles of impeachment against President Richard Nixon in 1974.

At PAR's Conference, Butler will discuss Prospects for an 18th Century Democracy in the 21st Century.
