INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS TO COMPLEX PROBLEMS
INNOVATION SPOTLIGHT
Virtual Tactical Assault Kit

ARA’s Virtual Tactical Assault Kit (VTAK) is an innovative virtual reality tool for mission planning and rehearsal which drastically improves situational awareness, giving users a true understanding of their surroundings. This advanced system enables warfighters to perform mission planning and rehearsal in full 3D space, rather than looking at a flat screen. Soldiers don a virtual reality headset and interact with a geographically accurate 3D environment that’s built from real-world, dynamically updated terrain data. Don’t like VR headsets? Don’t worry, VTAK works in desktop mode as well! Soldiers can see routes, determine bearing, and analyze lines of sight—from a bird’s-eye view all the way down to boots on the ground. Our VTAK work has generated game-changing results in training, planning, rehearsals, and communicating on the battlefield.

ARA’s Initial Orbit Determination Method Could Help Secure Satellites in Space
An ARA study, Advanced Uni-sensor Rapid Orbit Reconstruction Algorithm and Sensing (AURORAS) demonstrated a dramatic improvement in the speed and accuracy of optical angles-only Initial Orbit Determination for satellites through a revolutionary combination of new camera sensor technology and modified data reduction algorithms.

The security and safety of our operational satellites and manned spacecraft are vital for our economy, as well as our national security. As congestion in space grows, there is an immediate need to improve the speed and accuracy with which we determine the position and trajectory of objects in space, and ARA's innovative new concept could help to meet that need in the future.

Risk Based Asset Management for Geotechnical Features - GAM
NOVEMBER 30, 2022 | 12-1 PM ET
ARA is pleased to present a webinar on the fundamentals of risk-based geotechnical asset management (GAM) and their benefits and limitations. The webinar will discuss:

  • The components of GAM programs
  • The use of quantitative risk management in GAM
  • The challenges and some potential solutions for condition assessment, performance modeling, and data management

Geotechnical assets have typically been considered as permanent assets with infinite service life. Yet it is well documented and understood that these assets degrade overtime leading to failures that can result in major injuries, and significant property loss, service interruption, and economic burdens on agencies.

ARA's Renewable Fuels Technology Could Become a Global Gamechanger
A growing number of oil refiners are using lower-cost renewable feedstocks such as waste fats, oils, and grease to produce renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel. But first, they must pretreat these feedstocks to remove metals, phosphorus, and other contaminants. Conventional pretreatment technologies are inefficient, complicated, and expensive. ARA’s Hydrothermal Cleanup (HCU) Pretreat technology is a simple, low-cost, and high-yield approach to pretreating renewable feedstocks. There is no loss of organic mass, lower startup capital costs, and lower operating costs. ARA has secured patents in the U.S., Canada, Japan, and Australia. The technology was recently featured in Bay Biz magazine.
