Social Media Conversations:

This month, we posted about congregational density and religious adherence rates, belief in ghosts, the relationship between religious adherence rates and county temperatures, religious adherence rates over time in Sweden and Fiji, the number of religious congregations within each U.S. county, religious discrimination around the world, and views of the Bible over time.

We also posted about conferences, new research, lectures, and other opportunities of interest to our readers.

Anniversaries of Historical Events:

In October, there were a number of significant anniversaries of events in religious history. These included the first Wesleyan missionaries arriving in America (1769), Margaret Towner's ordination in the Presbyterian Church, U.S.A. (1956), and the Second Vatican Council opening under Pope John XXIII (1965).

In addition to reading about these single events, you can delve into substantially more religious history by viewing any of our nine interactive timelines. These include specific timelines dedicated to religious groups, women, race/ethnicity, and more.
Feature of the Month:
Denominational web pages

If you are interested in learning more about a religious denomination and would like to see all of our resources simultaneously for that group, you're in luck! We created denominational web pages exactly for this purpose. You can view over 20 pages for religious denominations here.
Additional Updates:
Information on the next U.S. Religion Census (formerly RCMS)

Wondering when the 2020 U.S. Religion Census data will be available? We're excited, too. The collecting body, ASARB, plans to release the data to us by early summer of 2022. And don't worry - we'll promote it heavily once we have it! Stay tuned for more.
