Ahead of the Trend Articles:

Ahead of the Trend is a collaborative effort between the Religion News Service and the ARDA. Check out these two new articles
since our last newsletter:

Interested in even more great coverage of religion and current events? You can find all of our Ahead of the Trend articles here.
Social Media Conversations:

This month, we posted about the growth of the AME Zion Church over time, states with the most Orthodox religious adherents, the state-level correlation between religious adherence rates and scripture reading, religion in Ghana, and how members of the Jehovah's Witnesses compare to members of the National Baptist Convention.

We also regularly post about conferences, new research, podcasts, lectures, and other opportunities of interest to our readers.

Anniversaries of Historical Events:

In March, there are many anniversaries of significant events in religious history. These include the preaching of Gilbert Tennent's "The Dangers of an Unconverted Ministry" (1740), the dedication of the first LDS temple in Kirtland, Ohio (1836), the Fox sisters contacting a spirit and initiating the Spiritualism movement (1848), and the first Salvation Army meeting in America (1880).

In addition to reading about these single events, you can delve into substantially more religious history by viewing any of our nine interactive timelines. These include specific timelines dedicated to religious groups, women, race/ethnicity, and more.
Feature of the Month:
Syntax repository

One of the most important tasks for researchers of religion is to properly code religious traditions into usable categories for survey data analysis. Thankfully, we have a syntax repository to help you do this. Examples include popular categorization schemes, like RELTRAD, and span software packages. Check it out here.
Additional Updates:
Information on the next U.S. Religion Census (formerly RCMS)

Wondering when the 2020 U.S. Religion Census data will be available? We're excited, too. The collecting body, ASARB, plans to release the data to us by early summer of 2022. And don't worry - we'll promote it heavily once we have it! Stay tuned for more.
