What an exciting year it has been for all of us at ARI. To learn more about the work we did in 2019, review our accomplishments for 2019 as well as a current list of ARI-funded research projects.

Whatever the new year brings, you can count on us to continue spearheading research advocacy while providing funding for investigations on very early intervention, environmental toxicants, genetics, neurology, medical comorbidities, and challenging behaviors. We strive to keep moving forward toward answers through research and education.

Editorial: Diagnosis and Screening for Autism: Past, Present, and Future
While the diagnosis of some syndromes is fairly straightforward, diagnosing autism spectrum disorders (ASD) has been and continues to be a challenge. In this editorial, I review the progress we have made, look at the current status of screening efforts, and describe the promise and limitations of biomarkers.
Research Review: Bone Health and BMD Research in Autism - Current Data, Evaluation, and Next Steps
A review of published research evaluating bone density issues in those with autism that analyzes potential issues of correlation and offers perspective for future research consideration; it includes proposals for evaluation and intervention strategies to address the impact of decreased bone mineral density in children and adolescents.
A new study, Genome, Environment, Microbiome and Metabolome in Autism (GEMMA), seeks participants
GEMMA seeks to understand the role that our genes, gut microbiome, and environmental factors play in the development of autism. Researchers are recruiting infants 0-6 months of age who have a sibling diagnosed with ASD.

ARI-Funded Research 2019
ARI conducts, sponsors, and supports research on the underlying causes of, and treatments for, autism. In order to provide parents and professionals with an independent, unbiased assessment of causation and treatment efficacy issues, ARI seeks no financial support from government agencies or drug manufacturers.
