Greetings!
I always look forward to this time of year as we collaborate with our Scientific Advisory Board to conduct ARI's annual Scientific Grant Program. ARI's research grants focus on new research areas for young investigators and new avenues of research for established researchers. We will announce award recipients in the early fall.
We are pleased to welcome Wenn Lawson, Ph.D. to ARI's Board of Directors. Among his many accomplishments, Dr. Lawson is a member of the Australian Autism Research Council, the Australian Association of Social Work (AASW), and the Australian Psychological Society (MAPs), a board member of LifeScience Global, and sits on the editorial boards of Autism in Adulthood Journal and the Journal of Intellectual Disability-Diagnosis and Treatment.
We are also quite busy with our educational webinars, including efforts with the World Autism Organization and through ARI's global outreach network. Be sure to check AutismWebinars.org to register for upcoming talks.
I send my best to everyone for good health as travel and gatherings resume in the wake of the pandemic.
Stephen M. Edelson, Ph.D.

Dr. Edelson's Latest Editorial: Defining Degrees of Autism — The Controversy and a Suggested Solution
|
|
|
Over the years, a number of broad terms have been used to describe individuals with autism based on levels of functioning, intelligence, severity, and verbalization.
While these terms are widely used, concerns have been raised about their simplistic nature and reliance on ill-defined criteria. In this editorial, I suggest a simpler and more accurate system.
