Safety and Flight Debrief
Welcome back to ARINCDirect Jump Seat. This week, we are taking a look at Safety. Read on for some of the existing and new features that we’ve made available to our customers, many due to partnerships we’ve established along the way.
A Background on Safety

Lately, many of our conversations pertaining to “safety” center around containing germs and practicing healthy habits. But in the aviation community, we know that there is much more to unpack. Safety procedures are key to any successful operation. And to facilitate success, ARINCDirect has delivered several safety-related tools and services. Primarily, these are FlightRisk, Vector SMS, and VOCUS, all of which are provided by Polaris Aero, and Flight Debrief, an application launched by ARINCDirect last Fall.

Perhaps it is best to first understand a brief history of FOQA / FDM (Flight Operations Quality Assurance / Flight Data Monitoring). The system routinely collects recorded aircraft data from operators around the globe. GE Aviation's corporate version, known as C-FOQA Centerline™, brought that same idea to business aviation. Through our unique integration with C-FOQA Centerline™, that data then feeds into a digital solution that delivers FOQA insights to everyday pilots for use in a debriefing context. Overall, this results in an ability for customers to stay connected globally, identify hazards quickly, and mitigate significant issues before an incident or accident occurs.

Safety Systems, Platforms, and Flight Debrief

FlightRisk® is an advanced risk assessment system that automatically identifies hazards and risk mitigations. It goes beyond a subjective hazard scoring system by providing an objective analysis to help pilots, dispatchers, and managers to make informed decisions. By integrating with ARINCDirect and FOS, users are not required to enter data manually. This tool is included in most subscriptions and can be accessed via FOS, FOS mobile, our iPad app, our website under the Safety tab, or directly in the VOCUS mobile app (iOS and Android).

Vector SMS®, a comprehensive safety management system (SMS) that helps organizations achieve the highest level of safety. Because it is integrated with ARINCDirect, ASIAS (Aviation Safety Information Analysis and Sharing), and C-FOQA Centerline™ and accessible on mobile devices (both iOS and Android), the platform allows everyone in your organization to easily submit safety reports. The system is also designed to help Safety Managers manage workflow and taskings, including investigations, root cause analyses, corrective actions, and audits. The flight department is also able to gain perspective on safety as a whole through the Insights tracking and trending tools.

VOCUS, is a new safety intelligence platform that brings both the FlightRisk and Vector SMS applications together into a seamless user experience. VOCUS is designed to be your safety hub. In the future, you will see more safety applications added to the VOCUS platform. VOCUS is what safety management should be - simple, meaningful, and seamless.

Flight Debrief, a progressive web application shown above, is one of the first major features released as part of a new ARINCDirect experience. The tool also collaborates with C-FOQA Centerline™ program to feed personalized performance and safety insights to crew members once a flight has completed. Existing C-FOQA Centerline™ customers can take advantage of the Flight Debrief tool immediately, or a subscription to the GE's C-FOQA Centerline™ program can be purchased directly from ARINCDirect.
Did you know?
  • ARINCDirect is now an authorized seller of Polaris Aero’s integrated Fatigue Risk Assessment. Using Pulsar Informatics’ biomathematical model integrated with the crew flight and duty schedules in FOS, FlightRisk can make fatigue advisories based on the latest scientific models. Crew fatigue estimates are based on circadian misalignments that occur when working at night or crossing time zones, as well as accounting for sleep deprivation, and the number of take-offs and landings in the flight schedules.
