ARPS Parent Updates
Hello Owl Families...

Today is the BIG day!!! You will be shortly be receiving a welcome email/video from your classroom teacher, welcoming you back to school and sending an invite for next week's Meet & Greet meetings.

This is by far one of my favorite times of the year! School supplies, new teachers, old friends....

We have been working diligently over the last 9 days, developing plans, collaborating together, organizing our spaces and learning...learning...learning. We know that while some things may be new and different, our love for student engagement (both on premise and online) is stronger than ever. We cannot WAIT to see everyone return on the *31st.

Keep reading below to learn more about First Day procedures, Driveline expectations and to meet some of our newest staff members. They have already learned that in order to work at Aspen Ridge, you have to be savvy, strong and know how to laugh along with everyone else (even when it's about yourself).

It's a great day to be an Owl! Thank you for your continued support.

Be Well,
Charla Salmeron, Principal

*1st-8th Grade Students return on Monday, August 31st

New Faces @ ARPS! Let's welcome...
Ms. Weingardt
VIP Teacher (K-2)
Brittany Weingardt is excited to join the Aspen Ridge Preparatory team as the Virtual Instructional Programming Teacher for K-2nd.
She received her degree form the University of Northern Colorado in Early Childhood Education and is currently pursing her Master’s Degree at the University of Colorado Denver. She has taught in preschool classrooms in Longmont, Colorado and 2nd grade at Monarch Elementary in Louisville, Colorado.
Outside of the classroom, she loves to be in the outdoors--camping, golfing, four wheeling, playing with her dog Lily, and paddle boarding.
Ms. Thornton
VIP Teacher (3-5)
Kaitlyn Thornton, originally from Oklahoma, has spent the majority of her life right here in Erie,CO. In her free time she can be found playing tennis and softball, attending concerts, learning new board sports, watching movies/YouTube, and spending time with family and friends. She has always loved traveling and has been lucky enough to go to many foreign countries (feel free to ask her about them!).
Ms. Thornton has worked at Aspen Ridge for the past few years as the Lead Counselor for the Owl's Nest. She's got patience, works hard and is looking forward to being the 3rd-5th Grade VIP teacher this coming year!
Mrs. Wange
Special Education Instructional Assistant
Shannon Wange was born and raised in Colorado and loves camping, hiking, and doing anything outdoors! She graduated from The University of Colorado Boulder with a degree in Communications, and has worked with kids in various capacities over the last 18 years. She is passionate about creating a safe and positive environment for students to thrive and grow in.
Mrs. Wange joins Aspen Ridge as a long-time parent to Haley (6th) and Liam (4th) and most recently, as an Aspen Ridge sub during the 19-20 school year.
Ms. Cousins
Kindergarten Teacher

Mackenzie Cousins is a graduate from Western State Colorado. She graduated with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and is moving to Aspen Ridge from Highline Community School, where she worked with students Kindergarten through 3rd grade.
Ms. Cousins will be joining the Aspen Ridge Kindergarten team this coming school year and is very excited! She is looking forward to the start of this new year and meeting all of her new Owls!

Mr. Milo
4th Grade Teacher
Tommy Milo is a graduate from the University of Northern Colorado's program of education. While his initial discipline surrounded teaching theater, his experience in elementary classrooms was so enriching that he decided to broaden his horizons of qualifications, leading him to opportunities such as teaching fourth grade for Aspen Ridge. Mr. Milo is an idealist who wants to make experiences out of his curriculum, building sympathy and true critical scrutiny in his pupils toward various subjects in addition to knowledge. He hopes his approach will behoove the community of the Owls, and he can't wait to meet his students!
Check out some of our other teachers who serve multiple grade levels and students! We couldn't do what we do without a strong team of leaders!

First Days of School
The first days of school are always filled with a range of emotions, from excitement to fear and everything in between. This year will prove to be very similar as our students start back to school on *Monday, August 31st.

Along with all of the other "new" things COVID has brought with it, we will also be facing the challenge of having no visitors on campus for the first quarter of school. That means that normal emotions that come with first day jitters may be extra emotional for some (and I'm not just talking about our students).

As we prepare for our first days of school, please keep in mind that guardians/visitors will not be allowed on campus. All hugging, snuggles and kisses will need to be a part of the morning routine that happens outside of the building. We will have a special "hug zone" at the entrance of the lower building entrance as a visual for both students and parents, and we'll have plenty of extra staff available at the entrances to make sure all students get to their classrooms safely. Your classroom teachers will be hosting either a virtual Meet & Greet (2nd-8th) or a playground Meet & Greet (PK-1st) next week. Make sure to ask your teachers questions about where their classrooms are and what the room number is. Start making plans now for a smooth transition and reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns.

We will also be asking ALL guardians to stay in their cars and use Driveline, in lieu of walking up to the building with your Driveline numbers, when dropping off and picking up from school. Below is a map that shows directions for Driveline (please note that there are changes that we'll need your help with), entrances for various grade levels and routes for entering and exiting the parking lots.

*1st-8th Grade Students return on Monday, August 31st
*Kindergarten Students return on Tuesday, September 1st
*PreSchool/PreK Students return on Tuesday, September 8th
