More ARS Newsletter Archives Now Online
ARS published a newsletter prior to launching American Recorder magazine in 1960, and later began using newsletters for more local and date-sensitive news. You can learn some fascinating ARS history by checking out our trove of newsletters from 1950-59, and then 1990-2024 (the 1980s will soon be added). If you have any paper newsletters that are not in our archive, we would love to add them. Email Susan Burns in the ARS office.

North American Virtual Recorder Society presents their November Playing Meeting
with Frances Blaker
When: Saturday, November 16, 2 - 3:30 PM, EDT
Cost: NAVRS Membership is $20 and each playing session is $15.
Membership is not required for your first meeting but there is a charge of $15.
On The Cusp Between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance: Music of the Middle Ages and music of the Renaissance - what is the difference? In our November playing meeting, recorder player and composer Frances Blaker will take us on a musical journey to the very cusp between these two historical time periods. We will play two medieval and two renaissance pieces to hear for ourselves how to distinguish and navigate their different musical styles. The two featured compositions on the medieval side are by Leonel Power (1380-1445) and Francesco Landini (1335-1397), and by Constanzo Festa (1485/90-1545) and William Byrd (1540-1623) for Team Renaissance!
