NEWS FROM MOOR HALL STUDIO

Well it has been a lovely end to the teaching term here at Moor Hall. What truely lovely students I have and I feel so lucky to be teaching them. I can't wait for them to return in the New Year, when we will be revisiting drawing in its many guises. I shall be showing some of the students work a little further down but I first want to alert you to either of the on-going drawing and painting classes that you may wish to enrol on next term.

I say either of the classes, but Moor Art 1 is currently full. However Moor Art 2 would warmly welcome any new member. Can I firstly say that these courses are for anyone, whether a complete beginner to those with experience. Students sometimes come for the inspiration that comes from discussing students work, or the work of artists, maybe the sharing of ideas ideas, as well as the (hopefully) stimulating projects that I set. Therefore if you feel nervous or anxious.......you want to come, but do not feel you are good enough then every reason for coming here and just giving it a go.

Have a look at my website and maybe just give it a go.

WORK BY MY ART STUDENTS

Using Michael Craig-Martin as Inspiration

Craig-Martin uses very flat colour in his paintings often working on alluminium. I chose gouache for this project as the colours can be painted very flat.

Students experimented with a number of ideas on this project, before embarking on this next consideration of taking a recognisable painting from a different master artist, tracing it off and then painting it in the style of Craig-martin. Here are a few of the resuts.

The work on the right is by Jennie and painted as Craig-Martin would have painted it, in flat colour, with some linear drawing. But can you tell which artists did the paintings on the left?

Can you tell who the artist is in each of these paintings, that have been painted by students and carried out in the style of Craig-Martin?

The following works are A1 in size and represent 'the wallpaper' works of Michael Craig-Martin. Students used their own images for this and I showed them how to create all-over repeat patterns. I did hear a few moans I think as students worked on this, because it was back breaking and time-consumng, but they looked amazing when finished. A final touch was then to do a painting which could be superimposed on top and where the design all matched.

A final twist was to trace off one of their designs carried out on this project, and this time to give it form by using tone in whatever way they liked. We sampled different ways of adding tone, through mark-making using different dry media.

The work that we do in the art sessions is very varied and challenges students however far they wish to be challenged.

PLEASE GET IN TOUCH IF YOU WANT MORE INFORMATION OR JUST THE ASSURANCE THAT THIS IS WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR.

Finally I would like to share with you the wreath-making workshop that my friend Gill and I took the Saturday during storm, high up at Black Mountain Chapel. Two other brave hearts weathered the storm and made it to the workshop.

A very bedraggled Bobby

A very wet Gill, playing with her saw..,Hmm!!!!!!

Ah....visitors at last to our workshop

Some very lovely results and much fun was had by all.

A VERY HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO YOU ALL AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR
