Art media include collage, painting (both oil and acrylic), drawings, photography, digital painting and mixed media. The Juror and the Gallery invite visitors to explore the many ways that artists use lights and shadows to stimulate our awareness of the world.
Dr. Dowell, the show's sole juror, is an artist, educator and editor. Her teaching career includes art instruction with Frederick County Public Schools and area colleges. She held her first solo exhibit when she was 21, and since then has won numerous awards for painting and drawing. In 1993, she was the first recipient of the prestigious Meredith Springer Award, given by the Delaplaine Visual Arts Education Center. She now lives and teaches in Southern Maryland. Her current professional interest is using art as a resource for addressing the urgent public health issue of addictions.
