The Maryland State Arts Council (MSAC) is now accepting applications to the artist-in-residence roster from poets and playwrights. The AIE Artists-in-Residence Program provides opportunities for hands-on intensive workshops involving a small core group of students and teachers over a number of days or weeks. Artists and companies selected by an advisory panel to participate in the Artists-in-Residence Program are listed on the Artists-in-Residence Roster of Artists, and are selected for inclusion in the Artists-in-Residence Program on the basis of their artistic achievement and their ability to work with students and faculty in a school environment. The application can be found here. The deadline for submission is September 14, 2012. Artists who have been approved by the panel will be notified by the end of January of their passing this first phase of review, upon which time a classroom site visit will be scheduled for the spring before full acceptance is determined. MSAC's artist-in-residence program is nationally recognized for the talent and skill of its artists and its innovative professional development opportunities. Join the team and help us bring quality arts education to Maryland schools. In July 2010, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution declaring the week following the second Sunday of September as National Arts in Education Week. Celebrate with us this year, September 9-15, 2012.

Christine Conko started her journey as an artist at Frederick Community College and later as an art education major at Towson University. As a senior there, she suffered a massive Cerebral Hemorrhage which left her in a coma, blind and partially paralyzed. While this changed the direction of her art, it did not change her passion for it. Her work is rich, emotional and prophetic. She has been fortunate to work with several local artists who have taught her, mentored her and inspired her to go on with her art.
