JESSICA CRAIG-MARTIN
Master Artist Outreach: Illustrated Talk and Q&A
Tuesday, July 2, 2:00 pm
Presented on behalf of the Atlantic Center for the Arts Residency #150
Event located at the Southeast Museum of Photography, Bldg. 1200, Ballroom |

Cropped and obliquely angled, Craig-Martin's photographs rarely allow for the identification of her subject's faces, thus subverting the concept of society page party pictures, and instead points towards the baubles, plumage and the telling details which offer commentary on society's obsession with surface. | |
Working in collaboration with the Atlantic Center for the Arts in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, The Southeast Museum of Photography is pleased to present Jessica Craig-Martin as a Master Artist-in- Residence in ACA's Residency #150 program.
Jessica Craig-Martin was born in Hanover, New Hampshire and lives and works in New York City. As a photographer who has worked for Vogue and Vanity Fair, among others, Craig-Martin has had ready access to the glitz and glamour of well-heeled society. Her solo museum and gallery exhibitions include Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, Madrid; PS1/MoMA; Galleria Maze, Turin; Colette, Paris; White Columns, NY; and Interim Art, London. Her work is included in such collections as the New Museum, New York, the Saatchi Collection, London, and the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York. |

Residency #150 is a creative milestone, a testament to Doc Leeper and her extraordinary vision of creating a place where artists from all over the world could come to think, research, create, and collaborate with like-minded artists of various disciplines. |
ABOUT ACA RESIDENCY PROGRAM
Atlantic Center for the Arts is an innovative nonprofit artists-in-residence program that provides artists with an opportunity to work and collaborate with some of the world's masters in the visual, literary, and performing arts. Since the program began in 1982, over 3500 artists have been served from the US and around the world.
The three week Residency Program brings together three "Master Artists" from different disciplines, such as the visual arts (painting, sculpture, photography, film/video, and multimedia), architecture, music (composition and performance), literature, choreography, dance, performance art, and theater. Each Master Artist determines the requirements and basic structure of their residency, and through an online application process, they each select eight "Associate Artists" to participate in the three-week program. The essence of the program is to provide a collegial environment for artists of all disciplines where they can engage in meaningful interaction and stimulating discussions, while pursuing individual or group projects. It is an ideal setting for the exchange of ideas, the inspiration for new work, and the cross-fertilization of disciplines. The programs can include formal classes, discussions, individual meetings, individual and group critiques, collaboration, and private studio time. The award-winning Leeper Studio Complex provides residents with resources such as a painting studio, sculpture studio, digital media studio, dance studio, music/recording studio, writers' studio, black box theatre and library.
The appearance of Jessica Craig-Martin is made possible by Atlantic Center for the Arts Master Artists-in-Residence Program.
