Hello,

I would like to introduce myself; my name is Richard Gabaldon with Brady SoCal and your new ASA President. I’ve been involved with the San Diego ASA for six years and it has been an experience full of opportunity and growth, personally and professionally. I would like to thank my colleagues for electing me President of the San Diego ASA. I am honored and humbled by your support. I would also like to thank the board of directors, committee members, our dedicated staff, new and existing members for their continued support in helping us get through these challenging times.

ASA is committed in its pursuit to make the subcontractor community stronger. I am excited to work with our team to continually bring the experiences we have all come to enjoy. Along with our social events we will seek new opportunities within state and local governments that will benefit our members. We are also looking to the future with new ideas that will promote our association for years to come.

I am looking forward to meeting you and encourage all members to participate, ask questions and give you valuable input. If you haven’t already joined a committee, I encourage you do to do so. It gets us out of our comfort zone and forces us to learn new skills and become expert in new fields.

On September 9, 2021, President Joe Biden announced the strategy to combat COVID-19 which includes requiring the U.S. Department of Labor through its Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to create an Emergency Temporary Standard (ETS) requiring employers with 100 or more employees to ensure that their workers are fully vaccinated or to require any remaining unvaccinated worker to produce a negative COVID-19 test result weekly to enter a worksite.

Noise Pollution: What is That?

Everyone has experienced noise pollution and its adverse effects on physical and mental health. A fire alarm going off in the middle of the night keeps you awake. A rock concert that was just a little bit too loud that leaves your ears ringing the next day. These are just a couple of many examples of how excessive and extended exposure to noise, also referred to as noise pollution, can have detrimental effects on human physical and mental health. While most are familiar with noise pollution as the noise created by freeway and airplane traffic or construction projects, the most prevalent sources of excessive noise pollution are typically industrial facilities. It is for that exact reason the state agencies like CAL/OSHA carefully regulate occupational exposure limits (OEL) and impose hefty penalties on companies who do not adequately protect their workers.
