We have created a new Forum for LSA members to discuss ideas and disseminate information about how to deal with COVID-19. The more you participate, the more ideas you contribute, the more we will all benefit.
To join the forum please follow these easy steps!

  1. Click on Join the Forum button above.
  2. Scroll down and you'll see a blue toolbar - click register.
  3. Create a username and include an email address - hit register
  4. You will receive an email to create a password.
  5. Sometimes this email goes to your junk folder. Please look there if you do not receive it right away.
  6. Once approved you can start posting and reading the forum

The forum is open to all LSA members: Active, Retired, Residents, and Medical Students.

Emergency COVID-19 Proclamation by the Governor

Gov. John Bel Edwards issued another emergency COVID-19 proclamation temporarily suspending the need for physician supervision of nurse anesthetists in Louisiana. Unfortunately it looks like the governors across the nation are reading off of each other’s playbooks, even though there is no demonstrated need for this action.
Hotline to Help You Use Anesthesia Machines as ICU Ventilators

Need advice and instruction for using anesthesia machines as ventilators for COVID-19 patients in the ICU? Need help expanding the availability of ventilators to support critically ill patients?
 
Together, we can help expand the availability of ventilators to support COVID-19 patients in the ICU.

A new hotline, developed collaboratively by ASA and APSF, provides personal assistance and instruction for using anesthesia machines as ventilators in the ICU setting. Physician experts are on call to advise you on this process for anesthesia machines across a variety of manufacturers.

Equipment Survey Requested by the Governor

Governor John Bel Edwards asked LSA for assistance with determining the approximate number of anesthesia machines in Louisiana so they have some idea how many could theoretically be used to ventilate ICU patients.
