Dear Colleagues and Friends,
We're thrilled to report that we have over 200 registrants for our upcoming, inaugural ASA national meeting! The event is shaping up to be a truly memorable occasion. We have excellent speakers delivering relevant and timely material, 15 NCCAOM PDAs, as well as a day on Capitol Hill lobbying for not only our profession, but also for the greater field of integrative medicine. Our vendor presence allows us to plan some lovely meals and receptions, facilitate networking as well as develop key relationships among all in attendance. If you have not yet registered for

Recently, we gave an address to the Council of Colleges of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (CCAOM) that provided an overview of the development and status of the ASA. Please take time to

We hope that when you see all of the work that's been done by so many dedicated professionals, you'll understand even more why we are so enthusiastic about taking our work to the next level.
The ASA is not just made up of a few individuals, but of all those leaders representing their state associations as well as the dedicated members working for the profession all over the country. We want to thank the more than 50 state leaders who will be in attendance for our Council meeting preceding the conference. The work of all of these volunteers is what makes the ASA strong, and provides the profession with the person-power to make a real difference in American healthcare. Additionally, thank you to every one of more than 4400 individual acupuncturists who support the profession through voluntary membership in this structure. Each and every one of you helps to make us a stronger voice for the profession, and allows us to do the work needed to incorporate this phenomenal medicine into U.S. healthcare.

Allow both Representatives words to help inform this "ask".

ASA Members: State Associations in Action
|
|
The Wisconsin Society of Acupuncturists hosted Lobby Day at the State Capitol on May 8, 2019. Members made constituent visits with their legislators, informing them about their acupuncture businesses, the role of acupuncture a non-pharmacological option for pain management, and answered many questions. Thank you to the ASA for all of the professional handouts we were able to share with policy makers! This year we also offered free auricular acupuncture and had over 40 people receive their first ever acupuncture treatment. A variety of people attended the free clinic: legislators and staff, building staff, visitors to the Capitol and fellow acupuncturists. WISCA is excited to offer this annually moving forward.

While this well-received course has been offered throughout Europe, this live Acupuncture Oncology course is the first time it is being offered in America! This live Acupuncture Oncology class (along with online component) allows participants to be eligible for an International Oncology Acupuncture Certificate through the TCM Academy of Integrative Medicine.
This class immediately follows the SAR Conference, also held at the University of Vermont.

CSOMA Opposes Athletic Bill AB1592
On April 16, CSOMA issued an open letter to the California Acupuncture Board strongly objecting to AB 1592 as currently written and amended on March 28, 2019. CSOMA states it represents a potential public safety danger to Californians by persons practicing Acupuncture (aka Dry Needling), which are grossly undertrained to administer Acupuncture safely and effectively.
CSOMA requests that the California Acupuncture Board strongly object to the current wording and omissions contained within AB 1592 on the basis of the lack of protections to the public safety in regard to the Licensed Practice of Acupuncture in California.

This clinical training is designed as a post-graduate internship in the theory and practice of Kampo medicine, the system of traditional Herbal Medicine practiced in Japan. This system offers practitioners familiar with the basics of TCM and other East-Asian theoretical models the opportunity to learn a direct, hands-on, clinical approach to the practice of herbal prescribing, including fukushin (abdominal diagnosis).
The Kampo Internship (K.I.) is composed of two integral components – the classroom and the clinic experience. Each is given equal weight throughout the training, which is offered in eight, three day modules over a 2-year period.

There are many avenues to being involved with the American Society of Acupuncturists. To enjoy the full benefits of membership, we encourage Licensed Acupuncturists to join their state association that is a member of ASA. You are considered a member of the ASA at no additional charge. State Associations that are currently members of ASA can be found

Other Ways to Be Involved:
Licensed Practitioners and Acupuncture Students who are unaffiliated with state associations may receive information about the state and federal regulatory and legislative environments, along with newsworthy announcements about the acupuncture industry by becoming an Associate of the ASA.
