Three Colorado hospitals earn AMA’s Joy in Medicine Award


Three hospital systems in Colorado have been recognized by the American Medical Association (AMA) for their exceptional commitment to reducing physician burnout and promoting well-being: UCHealth, CommonSpirit Mountain Region and Denver Health. The Joy in Medicine Health System Recognition Award acknowledges their significant efforts to foster a healthier work environment for physicians and clinical teams. Opportunity to get involved in federal politics


The American Medical Association is currently soliciting applications to fill vacancies on the American Medical Association Political Action Committee (AMPAC) Board of Directors and the AMA Council on Legislation (COL). These items will be considered at the November 2024 meeting of the Board of Trustees. You must be an AMA member to apply.


AMA to host webinar on cybersecurity measures for physicians

Experts provide latest insights on safeguarding medical practices and protecting patient health information from cybercriminals


In the wake of some of the largest health sector cyber-incidents in history, the AMA is adding a new physician-facing webinar to its extensive support for medical practices facing unprecedented incursions. Designed to help medical practices prevent cyberattacks, the new webinar featuring physician-focused solutions and strategies from two of the nation’s leading cybersecurity experts.


Join AMA Board Chair Michael Suk, MD, JD, MPH, MBA, on Friday, Oct. 18, 11:30 a.m. MT, as he hosts this important discussion on proactive cybersecurity defenses that will cover steps physicians can take to reduce digital vulnerabilities and protect against breaches, ransomware attacks, phishing scams and other types of cybercrimes in a constantly evolving threat universe. Also hear about AMA’s advocacy to strengthen cybersecurity systems and provide support to physician practices.

The Colorado Obesity Society is partnering with Medical Learning Institute (MLI) to offer a free, 3 part CME on “Harnessing the Power of the Community to Battle Obesity”. 

  

  • The first 2 sessions are virtual on October 30th and November 6th at 6:30 pm MT. Presenting are two great Denver speakers, Jacinda Nicklas, MD and Abby Bleistein, MD. 
  • The 3rd session is in LIVE Tuesday November 12th at 6 pm. The format will be more of a round table than a lecture. 
  • Location for LIVE session and in conjunction with the Colorado Obesity Society Quarterly Dinner Meeting will be Shanahan’s Restaurant – 5085 S Syracuse, Denver

Nomination period open for 2025 CMS leadership election


Have you thought about a leadership role in the Colorado Medical Society? We encourage members of all walks of life, perspectives, backgrounds, practice settings, career stages and geographic locations to consider a leadership position now or in the future. The nomination period for the 2025 election -- during which CMS members elect the president-elect and members of the Colorado delegation to the American Medical Association -- is open through Jan. 31, 2025. 2024 Consortium Annual Meeting registration closes Thursday


The 2025 Annual Meeting of the Colorado Consortium for Prescription Drug Abuse Prevention is coming up on Thursday, Oct. 31. Registration for in-person attendance closes Thursday, Oct. 17.   • An overview of Colorado’s opioid response

  • Afternoon panel discussions (advancing harm reduction services in Colorado, peer support services and the value of working with people with lived experience, creating recovery friendly workplaces, and improving treatment access and quality in Colorado)
  • Networking after the meeting closes at 3:45 p.m.
