Preparations underway among first cases of coronavirus in Colorado
The first two cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Colorado were announced on Thursday, March 5, 2020, and at the time of publication had climbed to nine statewide. Colorado Medical Society is committed to working with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) to instruct physicians and, in turn, their patients, on preparedness and response. The message to physicians is to stay in close contact with your local and state health department should a patient present with symptoms of COVID-19 or report potential exposure to COVID-19. Guidance is evolving and will continue to do so. If you have not already subscribed to receive Health Alert Network (HAN) broadcast emails, we urge you to sign up immediately by emailing with your full name, position and county of employment. CMS responds to release of Colorado Option bill
Following a months-long stakeholder process, the bill for a statewide public health insurance option (now called the "Colorado Option") has been introduced to the Colorado General Assembly. While the Colorado Medical Society will not determine an official position until after a full analysis of the bill is completed, CMS released a statement outlining initial observations -- including positive tenets of the bill and concerns. “Our members are united in the goal to bring high value care to all patients in Colorado,” said CMS President David Markenson, MD, MBA. “We are committed to being part of this process to ensure that physicians have the ability to practice medicine in the way that provides the best care to their patients.” Read the full press statement here.
