ASCCA Monitors Possible Regulations that will
Impact Motor Vehicle Tires
On July 29 and 30, The Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) held informational workshops regarding chemicals in tire products such as zinc.  The DTSC is in the process of listing motor vehicle tires that contain zinc and other potentially hazardous chemicals as priority products under the safer consumer products regulations. DTSC is pushing tire manufacturers to explore alternatives to using zinc and other hazardous chemicals that harm aquatic life and burden waterways. The tire manufactures fired back and provided information that tires are highly engineered products and that changes to any materials may change the tire's ability to meet NHTSA safety standards. The public can provide comments until August 6, 2021. See links below for additional information. ASCCA legislative advocate, Jack Molodanof, expects that the DTSC, after gathering information, will promulgate regulations on this issue. ASCCA will continue to monitor and report. 
 
HD I/M Workshop Webinar - August 3, 2021
Draft Proposed Regulatory Text Now Available - Heavy-Duty Vehicle Inspection and Maintenance (HD I/M) Program Public Workshop to Discuss Draft Proposed Regulatory Text and Senate Bill (SB) 210 Pilot Efforts
August 3, 2021
The California Air Resources Board (CARB) staff has posted its draft proposed regulatory language for the HD I/M workshop webinar scheduled on August 3, 2021.

During the workshop, staff will provide updated regulatory text for the future HD I/M program. Based on stakeholder feedback, staff has revised the draft regulatory text previously released in March and seeks further feedback from participants. Staff will also provide updates on and findings from the SB 210 pilot effort supporting the development of this HD I/M program.

The workshop will be held via Zoom webinar at the following date and time:
