Member of the Month: Esteban Gonzalez
January 2021

The ASCCA Membership Committee proudly announces Esteban Gonzalez of Proshop Automotive as its ASCCA member of the month for January 2021. ASCCA regularly honors members who go above and beyond in demonstrating ASCCA’s core values of integrity, compassion, professionalism, and unity. Along with these core values, Esteban also embodies ASCCA’s core purpose: To elevate and unite automotive professionals and give them voice.

Esteban has been around cars his entire life – his father was a diesel mechanic with a neighborhood shop and his older brother opened a shop in 2000. In 2013, Esteban found himself in a position to open a shop of his own. While he knew cars in and out, running a business had its fair share of challenges.

He credits joining the ASCCA as a highlight of his learning process, not only in running a successful business, but also being involved in his community. In his own words, Esteban states, “Being involved in a chapter level and now in a state level has given me the opportunity to help in ways I never imagined. It also made me realize that I am not alone in this journey and there is a lot of help if we are willing to accept it.”

Rick Schwartz, co-founder and CEO of Schwartz Advisors LLC, a mergers and acquisition advisor and management consulting firm to the automotive and heavy-duty transportation industry.

Jason Rainey is the Vice President of NAPA AutoCare; a program of more than 17,000 independently owned automotive repair facilities that have chosen to partner with NAPA.

Key Talking Points include: Investors are looking for a good investment return, looking for efficiencies in buying multiple shops, keeping employees, too much change needs to happen, locations can be a challenge, the owner cannot be the centerpiece of the business, run your business well so you have options, niche specialty shops are owned by master technicians from that brand (think Mercedes, BMW, Volvo, Euro), some businesses look to buy businesses that need fixing, and so much more!
