President's Column
By Kenneth F. Kostura, P.E., M.ASCE

Our March Section meeting was held at the Montrose Country Club in Fairlawn, where we had a great turnout.  The facility was very comfortable and the food was very good.  At this meeting we were able to recognize two of our 2017 Life Members, Bill Rudlosky and Paul Bosela.  It was our privilege to present certificates of recognition and Life Member Pins to these two fine engineers.  Congratulations, gentlemen.

Our technical program for the evening was a presentation by Jack Noble, PE, of ODOT District 4, and Emily Steva, PE, of ms consultants, inc. on the State Route 8 Bridge Replacement over the Little Cuyahoga River.   This major bridge replacement project is now in the preliminary design stage.  The funding picture looks good, so watch for this project to progress to completion in the next few years.  Our thanks to Jack and Emily for an interesting presentation.

In April, we will be holding our annual joint meeting with the Cuyahoga Valley Section of the American Society of Highway Engineers (ASHE) at The Galaxy in Wadsworth, hosted by ASHE this year.  Our speakers will be Darren Rozenek of the City of Akron and Jim Demboski, of Environmental Design Group, to talk about "Asset Management and Infrastructure Preservation".  We look forward to their insights on this topic which is of interest to all of us responsible for getting the most out of our public infrastructure.  Meeting details can be found below.

And, due to popular demand, we have arranged a site visit to the Robbins Company in Solon, Ohio, for ASCE members to see Rosie, the tunnel boring machine now being built for the Akron CSO program.  The machine is nearly finished and will very shortly be shipped to Akron to begin its work.  The tour will be in the shop area and all attendees must bring hard hats and safety glasses.  There is no charge, but you must register.  See the flyer below for details.

We look forward to seeing you at the April meeting.  Watch your email for newsletter updates and announcements.

Regards,

Kenneth F. Kostura
