March EWRI Luncheon
Topic
Leveraging Green & Grey Infrastructure to Increase Resilience and Meet Project Goals
Date/Time
Thursday, March 27th, 2025, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm
Location
Central Florida Expressway Authority - 4974 ORL Tower Road Orlando, FL 32807
Description
Please join EWRI for a 1-hour technical presentation with speaker Jessica Bruso with Ferguson to learn about leveraging green and grey infrastructure to increase resilience and meet project goals. This presentation looks at green and grey infrastructure solutions including permeable surfaces, nutrient reducing filters, bioretention, and space-efficient subsurface storage solutions. It will include case studies of how these solutions have been implemented in Florida to address specific stormwater challenges such as flood mitigation and nutrient reduction. In many cases these green stormwater infrastructure installations add resilience by complementing existing grey infrastructure, alleviating current flooding, and cleaning the water that is discharging into our natural water bodies. This session is approved for 1.0 PDH per ASCE Florida Section.

Join us for our March 2025 Webinar featuring Dr. Stan Boyle presenting on: Words matter, Consistency matters, Engineering experience matters: Mechanically Stabilized Earth (MSE) retaining wall projects that went sideways on Monday, March 17, 2025 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm.
Dr. Boyle will discuss lessons from his experience performing forensic investigations of mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) wall failures and working on legal cases related to MSE walls. These lessons include the necessity of engineers to use words appropriately and accurately; maintain consistency between the engineering performed, the specifications, and the drawings; and to engage engineers with appropriate experience to perform the analyses.
This webinar has been approved for 1 PDH.

Volunteer Opportunities
● Central Florida RECON (CFR) Waterway Cleanup Fleet – CFR RECON is a group of friends and concerned citizens protecting Central Florida’s surface waters and natural environment by removing trash and debris from lakes, rivers, and streams. All those who enjoy canoeing and kayaking and would have a couple of hours are welcome to join upcoming events! The RECON fleet is growing and currently has 9 kayaks available to use at events. Shoreline volunteers are also welcome if you feel the urge to walk instead of being on the water. Click the link to check out upcoming events! Click here to view all RECON events on Meetup. March Monthly Report
February was a busy and productive month for ASCE. From career-focused sessions to insightful general body meetings, our members had numerous opportunities to engage with industry professionals and expand their knowledge. The month was kicked off with a resume review session hosted by the Younger Members Forum (YMF). Another professional development event we had was joined by KPM Franklin for a Land Development 101 session. Their presentation gave attendees a deeper understanding of the land development field. Additionally, we held 3 general body meetings this month with Ardurra, Poulos & Bennett, and FinFrock. Each company offered members a range of new information in the civil engineering, land development, and construction fields. E-week also took place this month! Students had the chance to teach and mentor the younger generation about civil engineering through hands-on projects. With Student Symposium right around the corner, the main focus this month was locking in to our competitions. Our dedicated teams have and continue to work diligently to prepare for their competitions. Looking ahead, we are beyond excited and proud to represent UCF in a diverse set of competitions this year!
