Happy New Year East Central Branch!

The East Central Branch is celebrating the New Year with a brand new look to our website www.eastcentralasce.org! If you run into our Web Master and President-Elect, Jignesh Vyas, make sure to let him know how much you like it! And if you haven't been to the website lately, give it a click, and check out what's new. We're adding new features constantly so it's always worth a second visit.

We've got plenty of opportunities in January to keep to that "be more involved in my local ASCE chapter" New Year's resolution! On January 25th, EWRI and ECB will be volunteering with Orange County at the EPD Barnett Park helping clean up the park and remove invasive plant species. And on January 21st, ECB and YMF will be celebrating our recent graduates and new P.E.'s at the Firkin & Kegler Family Entertainment Center in Waterford Lakes with some bowling. Don't be shy, come out and join us!

For our Student Chapter Members, your first opportunity at a scholarship is quickly approaching. EWRI will be giving out $5,000 in scholarships this year at their Annual Conference in May! Look for the 2020 scholarship application on our fancy new website!
Don't forget! Your ASCE Membership expired at the end of the year. So if you haven't renewed yet, do it now!

Sincerely,

Spotlight
The purpose of this section is to shine a "Spotlight" on volunteer members, within ECB, that are known to go out of their way, above and beyond expectations. This month's Spotlight is shining on Mr. Christopher Carrino. Read below on how his involvement with ECB is making a difference.

Christopher Carrino is a Junior at the University of Central Florida majoring in Civil  Engineering. Joining the chapter as a freshman with an eagerness to make a difference drove him to become the underclassmen representative and rower for the annual concrete canoe competition by sophomore year. He then went on to become the current Student Chapter President of ASCE-UCF.

As president, Christopher has redesigned the student chapter's website, built new connections with company sponsors, and has focused on improving the efficiency of the chapter through new technology. Christopher anticipates this is going to be a great year for the club. He hopes to lead the charge for the UCF Chapter to make a difference in our community, bring professional development activities to all student members and of course, continue the free pizza tradition at their general body meetings! Most importantly, Christopher is excited for the upcoming Southeast Student Conference where him and over 50 student members participating in competition teams will go for the gold!

Next time you see Chris, please help us thank him for his outstanding service. Also, if you are aware of an ECB member deserving to be in the Spotlight, please let a branch officer know so they can be properly recognized in a future Spotlight.
