39th Annual EWRI Seminar, May 17, 2024, Second Harvest Food Bank in Orlando
There were 116 attendees at the seminar, including 16 speakers, 6 exhibitors, and 11 sponsors, including our Gold Sponsors FEG and Singhofen Halff, and our Networking Sponsors the Balmoral Group and ADS. Our speaker’s range of topics includes updates on UCF Stormwater Acadamy, the Wekiva PFA, Kissimmee Restoration projects, and Lake County’s new approach to reducing nutrient load through distributed wastewater treatment. Additional topics included advancing nature-based solutions to pollution reduction and designing storm sewer systems for sea level rise.
| After the seminar, EWRI hosted a networking event for attendees to visit and meet with exhibitors. | |
Scholarship winners were announced during the Seminar. Congratulations to Alexandra Roche, Edward Borges, and Jacob Quinones from UCF, and Marina Rockwell and Raissa Bianco from Embry Riddle. Each were awarded a $2,000 scholarship by EWRI. Not only is the annual seminar a fundraising event for next year’s scholarships, but the virtual drive held at the event raised over $600 for the Second Harvest Food Bank. | |

June Report
As Summer 2024 begins, students are preparing for their summer classes as well as their internships. Former ASCE officers have met with newly elected officers to train them for their new roles. Additionally, multiple meetings with ASCE faculty advisors have taken place to ensure a smooth transition into the 2024 to 2025 school year. At the beginning of the month, students had the opportunity to explore Finfrock as their company offered a site tour for UCF civil engineering students. Furthermore, the ASCE East Central 16th Annual Icebreaker took place at the Orlando Science Center! Students had the chance to interact and network with various professionals in the engineering and construction fields. The ASCE UCF Student Chapter had their booth at the Icebreaker where they informed professionals and students about the club.
