Greetings to everyone and I hope this message finds you all healthy.
Providing training and education to our membership is a core mission for ASCLD. Despite the unfortunate cancellation of our annual symposium this year, the Symposium Planning and Training and Education Committees found a way to bring timely and relevant content that would have been experienced in Denver, to the ASCLD membership.
Through a generous partnership with the Forensic Technology Center of Excellence at RTI International, we will present a three-part webinar series entitled
ASCLD Emerging Issues: Employee Wellness
. Providing training and education in employee wellness is part of the current ASCLD Strategic Plan. In an already stressful profession, as we adapt and lead through the COVID-19 pandemic, this topic is particularly timely.
This June,
ASCLD Emerging Issues: Employee Wellness
will present the following one-hour webinars:
June 11:
NIJ/ASCLD Gap Assessment of Stress, Vicarious Trauma, and Resiliency for Forensic Science Professionals
June 18:
Tackling Employee Wellness: The Phoenix Police Department’s Crime Lab Approach
June 25:
Drug Exposures in the Forensic Laboratory: What We Know, What We Can Learn
Look for updates on registration for these informative webinars here in the CLM, on the ASCLD LinkedIn page, and through FTCOE
(
https://forensiccoe.org/
).
As many conferences and trainings have had to make adjustments during the past few months, be sure to look under the “Training” section in the CLM for these updates. If you see something in error, please let us know so we can fix it!

This research shows how microscopic particles—in this case, from drug powders—can be spread around a forensic chemistry lab when handling evidence. The spread of small amounts of drug particles cannot be completely eliminated, but it’s important for labs to manage the problem, both for reasons of workplace safety and to ensure that measurement quality isn’t affected
