President's Message
The ASCLD Board has been reviewing the task force groups and initiatives that have been developed over the years and determining if the goals of each have been met, or if more work was needed. I am happy to report that many of the initiatives and task force groups that have been developed have fulfilled their goals and objectives or are very close to finishing their original intent for being developed. The ASCLD Board will be sunsetting these task force groups/initiatives and moving them under the umbrella of a standing committee, so that we can maintain a point of contact should the need arise for a response/action.

ASCLD Emerging Drug and Opioid Task Force :

A special thanks to Board of Director Bruce Houlihan who lead this group and did and continues to do an amazing job. I wanted to share the information that he sent to the task force members, notifying them of the upcoming changes. This group will now be under the Member Resource Committee and if needed, will be called upon as Bruce mentions below:

“This is just an update on the ASCLD Emerging Drug and Opioids Task Force. Because of your participation and help, the ASCLD Board voted to sunset the task force as most of our formal work was accomplished. We will continue to assist ASCLD as needed (e.g. Linda’s work with cannabis is still ongoing, and I’m still assisting with other groups like NFLIS-Tox, etc.), but our scheduled meetings will cease unless we have specific issues in the future to address.

I will continue to maintain the Resources page on our shared site : documents, articles, publications, etc. will be posted as I receive them for your use and reference.

Thank you for your service on the group during the last two years. It’s really made a difference in the community, and I’ve enjoyed working with you.”

Thank you to everyone who participated and provided all of us with a wealth of knowledge and resources. I had the privilege of working on this task group and the enthusiasm and commitment to excellence was infectious.

Have an amazing week,
Brooke

Scientists have demonstrated a way for police to quickly and safely test whether a baggie or other package contains illegal drugs without having to handle any suspicious contents directly. The new technique can limit the risk of accidental exposure to fentanyl and other highly potent drugs that can be dangerous if a small amount is accidentally inhaled.
