I got to play a magician this week. A Simple Gesture's iconic green bag says so much about what we do, but our logo was looking a little dated and, with so much happening in food recovery, it doesn't tell the whole story. So after much discussion with our staff and our board, we decided it was time for an update.
We absolutely love it. Our new logo keeps the heart of what we do, but it also conveys the action, the energy, and the passion that you all pour into green bag pick ups and food recovery. While our logo may be changing, our mission remains the same: We're working to make sure children and families all across Guilford County have regular access to the healthy food they need to thrive. We're forever grateful to our food donors, food recovery partners, volunteers, drivers, financial donors, and ASG friends. YOU make the magic. Thank you! Happy fall!

1 Million Pounds of Food: SHARE Program Rolls Out to Every Guilford County School
When a child finishes their cafeteria lunch or breakfast and has food that's unopened, right now much of that food ends up in the trash. But starting this school year, students have a new option to safely store and share that food with any other child who is hungry: the SHARE refrigerator.
A Simple Gesture Food Recovery purchased a refrigerator for every Guilford County public school and got those fridges in place before the first day of school. Now students can place that bag of carrots or carton of milk in the SHARE refrigerator instead of in the trash. Any other child who is hungry can help themselves, no questions asked. A Simple Gesture Food Recovery ran a pilot test of this program, and based on those results we're estimating the SHARE refrigerators will provide over 1 million pounds of food (yes, you read that right!) for hungry kids, food that otherwise mostly would have been thrown away.

Sprouts & Speckles: "Is It Okay to Eat This? Wasting Less Food—and Saving More Money"
There's nothing worse than pulling out your container of strawberries, only to find that a few are moldy. Are the rest safe to eat? Do you need to throw them all away?
You're invited to learn all about food waste, the science of food, and whether you can eat the rest of those strawberries (the answer is YES!) with food waste expert Rachael Jackson on Tuesday, October 24, at the High Point Library Morgan Community Room from 6 pm-7:30pm. The event is free and interactive. Hope to see you there!

Little Free Pantries: Local Club Ready to Help
Interested in having a Little Free Pantry at your church, club, business, or neighborhood? Gate City-Sunset Rotary is ready to help! They'll build the pantry and fill it up, then your group will assume responsibility to keep it stocked. To get the ball rolling, click here to contact the club.
