Dear Upper School Parents,

Yesterday, we launched “ASH Beyond the Gates” to provide students with ongoing, continuous, live instruction, despite the school closure due to the Coronavirus. This is a new step in the way teachers and students engage in learning; and one where we lean into the future of education in dynamic virtual modalities. Students and teachers both responded positively, and all classes met as scheduled.
While this is a fluid situation, our hope is to offer the same level of success in the days and weeks ahead. We have plans for this time, supported by a creative and competent group of faculty in our Upper School.

Continuous learning in the virtual world is different, and it requires new logistics, protocols and technical supports. We understand that students may have trouble logging into their classes and that there may be drops in connections and other issues. These are challenges we anticipate, and we are standing by to support your concerns in these areas as they arise. More information will follow about our support efforts in this regard.

As a matter of course, we will record all “Google Meet” sessions moving forward. We want you to be informed and knowledgeable about the platform that we will be using for learning. In this way, teachers will be able to share their recorded sessions as necessary. Students will be able to listen to recorded sessions in the event that they cannot join “live” at the scheduled time for class. Even with this “back up” plan in place, it is our expectation that students will continue to sign in to their classes at the regularly scheduled times.

Because we are recording all Google Meet sessions, we are including an electronic permission slip . Your signature acknowledges that teachers are live streaming with your daughters and that those sessions are being recorded.

I hope and pray that you will continue to stay safe and healthy. Please stay in touch with any questions or concerns.

Best Wishes,

Julie Boyd
Upper School Division Head
