Beware of Phishing attempts
Please be cautious when receiving emails from members of ASHI Board of Directors requesting funds. These emails are phishing scams: a fraudulent practice of sending emails purporting to be from reputable companies or individuals in order to induce individuals to reveal personal information, such as passwords and credit card numbers.

Unfortunately, there is currently no real technical solution to the problem of email scamming. Some systems are beginning to grapple with it now by flagging an email if the sender's identity or the email system it was sent from is suspicious. But even with that, there is still the human element where someone still needs to notice that and take precaution.

One way to be sure that the email is in fact a phishing attempt is if the email address does not match the known email address of the supposed sender. You can also contact the ASHI or board member via a separate email to their known email address or a phone call before acting on, or even responding to it. Please be assured that these emails do not come through ASHI Headquarters email system.
Volunteers Needed
Communications, Engagement & Marketing (CEM) Committee
The CEM Committee is a newly formed committee with two main focuses:

  1. To promote ASHI and the science of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics to the ASHI community and beyond
  2. To engage the larger transplant community, patients, donors, caregivers, and the general public to raise awareness of the amazing work done in our field

The committee is looking for volunteers to assist with creating social media content. If you're looking for a fun, easy way to start committee work, complete a volunteer application now!

Educational Initiatives Subcommittee
If you are a current Director in Training, the Educational Initiatives Subcommittee is looking for volunteers to assist with the ASHI Journal Club & Career Development Workshops. Specifically, you could:
  • Provide information to speakers about their session
  • Identify reviewers for the journal clubs occurring after June
  • Assist in planning the agenda for 2022
  • Assist in identifying speakers for 2022

Committee Corner
Attention Laboratory Directors!
In the next week or so, you should be receiving a letter and certificate in the mail from the American College of Histocompatibility & Immunogenetics (ACHI). As promised, we are sending certificates to all approved ASHI directors, grandfathering everyone into the college with the following 2 options:

Option 1: If you have passed the ABHI examination and hold the ‘diplomate’ credential D(ABHI) – you are now considered a Fellow of the college. You can choose to use either D(ABHI) or the new F(ACHI) or FACHI credential after your name from now on.

Option 2: If you have not passed the ABHI exam and are not a diplomate, but approved as an ASHI director with other board certification – you are now considered an Affiliate of the college. You can use the new credential A(ACHI) or AACHI after your name from now on.

If you have any questions, please email Melissa Weeks, Chief Learning and Accreditation Officer.
ASHI vs. ACHI
This is a friendly reminder to ASHI members who are CHT or CHS certified:
Your membership status with ASHI is completely separate from your certification status with ABHI (now known as ACHI). You will have to pay separate annual fees for each. The ABHI/ACHI certification requirements include a collection of continuing education (CE) credits every 3 years. ABHI/ACHI usually sends reminders to pay their certification fees in April. ASHI membership dues run within a calendar year and you can expect to receive renewal reminders starting in September.
