Invitation to participate in a survey conducted by the BANFF Working Group on Antibody Mediated Injury

The Antibody-Mediated Injury Working Group of the Banff Foundation on Allograft Pathology invites you to participate in a Multidisciplinary Transplant Conference Questionnaire. The care of transplant recipients is complex, requiring a collaborative and multi-disciplinary effort.  This research study entails the coordination of the responses of healthcare professionals from a range of disciplines to deliver comprehensive care that addresses the transplant recipient’s medical, behavioral, and psychosocial needs. Despite the evidence supporting the benefit of a multidisciplinary approach in transplantation, very little is known regarding the actual proportion of transplant centers practicing regular, comprehensive, multidisciplinary transplant conferences. Read More

HLA and Autoimmune disease: Focus on type 1 diabetes

Date: Thursday, November 16, 2023 at 12PM EST

About the webinar: At the end of the webinar, participants should have an understanding of the history of the discovery of HLA association with autoimmune disease and the kinds of studies that have led to current understanding of the field. In addition, participants should be aware of current ideas about how HLA may contribute to autoimmunity through the innate, as well as the adaptive, immune system. Attendees will receive CE Credits!

About the speaker: Janelle A Noble received her PhD in Immunology from UC Berkeley and has been studying the role of HLA in the genetics of autoimmune disease with a particular focus on type 1 diabetes for over two decades. She led a research program at Children's Hospital Oakland Research Institute, was on the faculty of the UCSF Pediatrics Department, and was a member of the Diabetes Center at UCSF.

Le rôle du complexe HLA dans le diabète de type 1

Language: French

Date: Monday, December 11, 2023 at 9AM EST

About the webinar: The epidemiology and genetics of type 1 diabetes will be reviewed, with special concentration on the MHC locus and the HLA family of proteins and their vast variety of interacting alleles. Antigen presentation in the context of both self-tolerance development and effector function will be reviewed. Questions of interaction with antigenic epitopes and TCR will be addressed at the molecular level. Attendees will receive CE Credits!

About the speaker: Constantin Polychronakos is a Professor in the Department of Pediatrics (cross-appointment in Human Genetics) at McGill University, Montreal, Canada. His main research interests are in the genetics and immunology of type 1 diabetes (T1D). He discovered the mechanism of T1D association with the insulin gene, through modulation of the thymic insulin expression. He has led the first genome-wide association studies for both types of diabetes. He is currently studying possible mechanisms of TCR interactions with the HLA-antigenic epitope complex.
