Partnerships & Collaborations

EFI Young Professionals Committee

Dear ASHI Members,

On behalf of the EFI Young Professionals Committee, we are excited to introduce ourselves as the EFI Young Professionals Committee, a new committee within the European Federation of Immunogenetics (EFI). Thank you for giving us the opportunity to share who we are, and we hope to connect with you further in the future.

What started as a working group has grown into a new official committee within EFI since January 2025. Our primary mission is to represent new and younger EFI members within the organization. We do this in several ways:

  • Representation: We have a Young Professionals representative in nearly every EFI committee.
  • Annual Session: We organize the EFI Young Professionals session at the annual EFI Conference.
  • Networking: We aim to connect EFI Young Professionals to exchange ideas, skills, and knowledge.
  • Community Building: We host social events and promote activities that foster collaboration.
  • Focus Areas: Our initiatives emphasize sustainability, diversity, education, and bioinformatics.

Currently, our committee consists of a diverse group of nine members from various countries within the EFI region and different roles in our field. Some of our ongoing projects include: Setting up EFI’s social media presence, preparing our session for the upcoming annual EFI conference in Edinburgh, interviewing EFI inspectors and developing a resource hub with useful information for new EFI members.

We would love to exchange ideas with ASHI members and explore opportunities for joint initiatives. If you are interested, please feel free to reach out. Contact details are provided below. On behalf of the EFI Young Professionals Committee, Thank you for your time and interest!

ASHI Speaks Your Language Webinar (in French)

Hosted by the International Committee

The genetic diversity of the province of Québec reflects its settlement history, marked by multiple migratory waves and the presence of First Nations peoples.

The study being reviewed during the webinar analyzes allele and haplotype frequencies across different regions to highlight regional stratification of HLA and the diversity of the stem cell donor registry. High-resolution HLA data for the HLA-A, -B, -C, -DPB1, -DQB1, and -DRB1 loci were obtained for 3,850 individuals, as well as for 172 members of First Nations communities. The analysis was conducted using GENE[RATE], and genetic distances were compared using NMDS. This call will highlight regional differences in HLA composition and reinforce the need for province-wide recruitment strategies to improve donor representation and compatibility.

Help LPRI Strengthen the HLA Workforce: Share Your Voice

The ASHI Laboratory Professionals Recruitment Initiative (LPRI) taskforce committee

launched the Workplace Satisfaction Survey for HLA professionals working in ASHI member labs. This initiative seeks to identify what contributes to job satisfaction and retention within the field. Your feedback will help create a resource hub of practical strategies that lab leadership can use to improve the work environment and support their teams. The survey is brief, anonymous, and designed to gather meaningful insights that will guide long-term efforts. Responses will be reviewed quarterly to monitor trends and inform future initiatives. Your input is essential to building a stronger, more sustainable HLA workforce. Click here to participate!

Research Funding Opportunities

The Science and Technology Initiatives Committee (STIC) is pleased to continue highlighting a key initiative aimed at promoting relevant external research funding opportunities within the ASHI community.
