WEF Global Risks Report 2025: Conflict, environment and disinformation are top threats

The 20th edition of the World Economic Forum’s Global Risks Report reveals an increasingly fractured global landscape, where escalating geopolitical, environmental, societal and technological challenges threaten stability and progress. While economic risks have less immediate prominence in this year’s survey results, they remain a concern, interconnected with societal and geopolitical tensions.


In Global Risks Report 2025, state-based armed conflict is identified as the most pressing immediate global risk for 2025, with nearly one-quarter of respondents ranking it as the most severe concern for the year ahead.


Misinformation and disinformation remain top short-term risks for the second consecutive year, underlining their persistent threat to societal cohesion and governance by eroding trust and exacerbating divisions within and between nations. Other leading short-term risks include extreme weather events, societal polarization, cyber-espionage and warfare. Read more . . .

Bentley sources sustainable, high-performance carpet fiber from Universal Fibers to lower carbon impact and reduce waste

Bentley Mills continues to strengthen its leadership in responsible commercial carpet manufacturing, announcing that it will exclusively offer Thrive matter nylon fiber in its Universal Fibers’ solution-dyed yarn bank, the industry’s first and only U.S. company to do so. Part of the Bentley Premium Nylon yarn systems, Thrive — a Type 6,6 solution-dyed nylon — is among the most sustainable, high-performance carpet fibers available to the market today. The Universal/Thrive partnership raises Bentley’s minimum percentage of recycled content to 75% in its yarn, while also creating lower carbon impact scores and increasing waste diversion from landfills in the yarn creation process. $332m in FAA grants will help airports sustainably modernize in 32 states

The U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced on January 8, 2025, more than $332 million for 171 grants across 32 states to modernize airports through the Airport Infrastructure Grants (AIG) program. In total, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law included $25 billion over five years for airport and air traffic control infrastructure improvements. The AIG funds can be used for airport planning, development, sustainability, terminal expansions, baggage system upgrades, runway safety enhancements, and noise compatibility projects.
