PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

As we step into February, I want to take a moment to reflect on the energy and inspiration that filled our community during Las Vegas Market. Winter Market once again reminded us why this event is such a cornerstone for our industry—bringing together innovation, craftsmanship, and meaningful connection. It was energizing to see so many ASID members on campus, sourcing new products, strengthening relationships, and engaging in conversations that will shape the year ahead.

Momentum is building as we move into the spring, and one of the highlights on our calendar is the upcoming ANDYZ Awards. The ANDYZ Awards celebrate the talent, creativity, and impact of our design community, and we encourage all eligible members to participate—whether by submitting work, supporting fellow designers, or joining us in celebrating design excellence.

Thank you for being such an engaged and inspiring community. I look forward to continuing to connect, learn, and celebrate together in the months ahead.

Industry Insight: What Designers Need to Know About Custom Lighting Projects

Custom lighting continues to play a growing role in creating distinctive, experience-driven interiors—but it also requires early planning and clear communication to be successful.

According to a recent article from Designers Today, designers are increasingly specifying custom lighting to support design intent, human-centric environments, and brand storytelling. However, these projects often come with longer lead times, tighter coordination, and higher levels of technical complexity than off-the-shelf solutions.

Key takeaways for designers include the importance of:

  • Involving lighting partners early in the design process
  • Aligning custom fixtures with budget, code, and installation requirements
  • Allowing adequate time for prototyping, approvals, and fabrication
  • Clearly documenting design intent to avoid costly revisions

As lighting becomes more integrated into architecture and interiors, understanding the process behind custom solutions can help designers deliver more seamless, impactful results for clients.

Industry Brief: Designing for Wellness & Performance

Wellness-driven design continues to influence interiors across residential, workplace, and hospitality sectors. Designers are increasingly prioritizing natural light, biophilic elements, acoustics, and material health to support occupant well-being and performance.

From home offices to commercial spaces, clients are asking for environments that feel calmer, healthier, and more intentional. For designers, this means balancing aesthetics with evidence-based strategies that enhance comfort, focus, and overall quality of life—making wellness a core design value rather than an add-on.

Industry Brief: Collaboration Is Shaping Better Project Outcomes

As projects grow more complex, early collaboration between interior designers, architects, lighting specialists, and fabricators is becoming essential. Integrated teams are helping streamline timelines, reduce revisions, and better protect design intent from concept through installation.

This collaborative approach not only improves efficiency but also elevates final results—allowing designers to deliver more cohesive, thoughtful spaces while navigating tighter schedules and evolving client expectations.
