ASID National: 2026 Trends Outlook

Interior design is entering 2026 at a crossroads—shaped by creativity and constraint, optimism and uncertainty. As global conversations around culture, technology, and economics continue to evolve, designers are responding with work that seeks meaning, grounding, and authenticity.

ASID’s 2026 Trends Outlook explores the forces influencing the future of interior design, from shifting client expectations and market dynamics to advancements in technology and changes in how we experience the built environment. The report also reflects on how moments like Pantone’s Color of the Year announcement have become symbols of a larger reality: design is personal, interpretive, and deeply human.

By examining societal, economic, technological, and cultural trends, the report offers valuable insight for designers, manufacturers, and retailers looking to anticipate change and make informed decisions. It’s a forward-looking resource designed to help our industry prepare for what’s next—by understanding the choices shaping today.

Industry Insight:

Interior Designers Weigh AI’s Benefits and Risks

Designers on the forefront of the profession discussed the evolving role of artificial intelligence in practice during a panel at the recent Las Vegas Market. The conversation explored when AI is being embraced to enhance workflows, client research, and design exploration—and when professionals are choosing to step back due to concerns around creativity, authenticity, or practical limitations. This dialogue reflects a broader industry moment: designers are actively defining how to use emerging technology thoughtfully rather than simply following the hype.

“AI has been a game changer for me,” said panelist Laizure, “I want to spend time doing what I enjoy doing, which is actual design.” She noted that AI automation has helped her write blogs more efficiently and repurpose content for social engagement.
