What Trump’s sweeping global tariffs mean for the home industry

In the earliest weeks of his second term, President Donald Trump took
a scattershot approach to tariffs. This week came the cannonball. Making
the announcement from the Rose Garden on Wednesday, Trump unveiled a broad sweep of tariffs that, if they stand, are poised to reshape global trade
in general and have a seismic impact on the home industry.
The rollout—an event the White House has dubbed “Liberation Day”—imposes
a 10 percent base rate on imports into the U.S., with higher tariffs applied
to dozens of countries around the world. In the home industry, some of the most impactful levies include 46 percent on imports from Vietnam, 32
percent on Indonesian goods, 20 percent for the European Union, and 27 percent for India. China was also hit hard: Imports from the country will now receive an additional 34 percent tariff on top of the 20 percent already implemented by Trump this year. The 10 percent rate goes into effect April 5; the rest of the tariffs begin April 9.

A beautiful day for a walk!
ASID hosted an engaging and inspiring walking tour of the Las Vegas Arts District, specifically focusing on the unique and creative spaces of 18b, the district's heart and soul. The event brought together designers, art lovers, and members of the community to explore the dynamic blend of art, architecture, and design that defines this vibrant area.
The tour started at The Arts Factory, where participants were introduced to the history of the district, its rise as a creative hub, and its ongoing transformation. Attendees were then guided through various studios, boutiques, and public art installations, each reflecting the eclectic energy that defines the 18b Arts District. The buildings, many of which feature a mix of industrial architecture and modern design elements, offered a perfect backdrop for a deep dive into the intersection of design and urban revitalization.
Throughout the day, the group had the chance to see firsthand how interior design plays a critical role in shaping the spaces of the district. Designers highlighted creative uses of light, color, and texture, as well as sustainable practices incorporated into some of the newer developments.
Each stop featured unique insights from local artists and designers, giving participants the opportunity to discuss emerging trends, challenges, and opportunities within the design world.
The sunny weather added a special touch, with the outdoor murals and public art pieces bathed in warm sunlight, showcasing the district’s artistic vibrancy. The tour concluded with a visit to a rooftop bar, offering a panoramic view of the area and allowing attendees to network and discuss their favorite parts of the day.
Overall, the ASID walking tour of the Las Vegas Arts District was a
fantastic way to experience the creativity and innovation of 18b,
leaving participants inspired and appreciative of the power of design
in transforming urban spaces.
