Dr. Jim Musser Becomes President of
FASEB
James M. Musser, M.D., Ph.D., assumed the role of President of the
Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology
(
FASEB
) on July 1, 2018. Dr. Musser succeeds Dr. Thomas O. Baldwin who served in this role from July 2017 to June 2018. Dr. Musser is a Past-President of the
American Society for Investigative Pathology
(
ASIP
), serving in this role in 2013.
FASEB
was founded in 1912 and now represents 30 scientific societies and over 130,000 researchers world-wide.
FASEB
is recognized as the research and science policy voice of biological and biomedical researchers. Dr. Musser is the 26
th
ASIP
member to serve as
FASEB
President.
Dr. Musser is Chair of the Department of Pathology and Genomic Medicine of the Houston Methodist Hospital System and Research Institute in Houston. He holds the Fondren Endowed Presidential Distinguished Chair and is the Director of the Center for Molecular and Translational Human Infectious Diseases Research at the Houston Methodist Hospital Research Institute. Dr. Musser is a long-time member of the ASIP (since 1992). In addition to being a Past-President of the
ASIP
, Dr. Musser has served on the
ASIP
Council and as the
ASIP
representative to the
FASEB
Board of Directors for many years. Dr. Musser has been honored by the
ASIP
with several awards, including the
ASIP
Warner-Lambert/Parke-Davis Award in 1999 (now called the
ASIP
Outstanding Investigator Award), the
ASIP
Chugai Award for Excellence in Mentoring and Scholarship in 2007, and the
ASIP
Rous-Whipple Award in 2017.
