ASLA Colorado Board of Directors

Due June 28th

As of press time no one has applied

Any full or associate member interested in serving on the Board of Directors for a term beginning in October should send an email to info@aslacolorado.org by Friday, June 28. Board meetings are on the second Tuesday of the month by Zoom. Please state the position you are interested and briefly list your qualifications. The available positions are: President Elect, Secretary, Vice President Communications, Vice President Government Affairs, Vice President Programming, and Trustee. All positions are for one year except the Trustee position which is a 3-year term. Position descriptions are in the bylaws which are on the website at https://www.aslacolorado.org/about/executive-committee/. The election will be in July.

Take the ASLA Federal Priorities Quick Survey by Monday, June 30!

We are urging all chapter members to take the ASLA Federal & State Legislative Priorities Survey. This short survey will take just a few minutes to complete, but is critical to determining what policy issues ASLA will focus on for the next two years. Tell ASLA if they should continue to work on licensure issues, climate and biodiversity, parks and recreation issues, water management, or others.

Please make Colorado/Wyoming voices heard in this important data collection! The new deadline to complete the survey is June 30.

Join WiD for casual networking hour at July's First Tuesday Recess. This event is open to non-members, so invite a colleague or friend! No RSVP required.

Laurel Raines of Dig Studio Elected to Prestigious

American Society of Landscape Architects Council of Fellows

“ASLA Fellows represent the most accomplished and admired leaders in the entire field,” says President SuLin Kotowicz, FASLA

[Denver, CO] (June 24, 2024) – The American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) announced the election of Laurel Raines of Dig Studio, Inc. as one of 40 ASLA Fellows in 2024. ASLA Fellows are recognized for their exceptional contributions to the landscape architecture profession and society at large. Election to the ASLA Council of Fellows is among the highest honors the ASLA bestows on members and in the case of Laurel, was based on works of landscape architecture.

Laurel’s work has left an enduring mark in many communities of the West. Her dexterity across the art, science and humanity of the craft, her energetic advocacy for new ways to respect and enhance our environment, and her enduring passion for community-centric design that contributes a sense of safe place: these are all defining elements of her legacy. Laurel’s lifetime of leadership in this profession continues to transform, influence, and sustain the communities where her work lives.

“Our work has the power to enhance people’s lives in concert with protecting our environment”, said Raines. Over the decades of my career, our philosophy has evolved to more responsibly reflect the unique qualities of our arid western landscape, resulting in an aesthetic that connects people to the naturalized landscape.

2024 Professional Awards Call for Entries

The 2024 Professional Awards Call for Entries is now available and the online submission portal opens May 1. Deadline for submissions is 5:00pm July 12, 2024. This year's awards will be judged by the Indiana chapter in late July. Based on comments and survey feedback, the General Design category now has three cost tiers instead of two, and the cost amount on residential projects is updated to better reflect current trends.

Category 1A: General Design (over $5,000,000 construction budget)

Category 1B: General Design (between $1,000,000 and $5,000,000 construction budget)

Category 1C: General Design (under $1,000,000 construction budget)

Category 2A: Residential Design (over $250,000 construction budget)

Category 2B: Residential Design (under $250,000 construction budget)

Category 3: Urban Design

Category 4: Analysis and Planning

Category 5: Communications

Category 6: Research

Category 7: The Landmark Award

Other updates:

All General Design award winners are now displayed in a single gallery page on the website rather than in cost-specific galleries. The individual project pages will still show the cost amount.

Locally-Based International/Out-of-State Work

To allow better understanding of the work of Colorado/Wyoming-based LAs, we added a way to describe how our members contributed to out-of-state and international projects.

Project Credits

We now have a way to recognize contributions of other team members on the project, and display them on the individual award page, similar to how National displays their awards (see example here: https://www.asla.org/2023awards/7695.html.)

Thanks to everyone who contributed ideas to improve the awards program!

Call for Jurors!

ASLA Colorado/Wyoming is seeking jurors for our upcoming Chapter Award Jury Swap with the Indiana Chapter.
