Message of Solidarity: Earthquakes in Turkey and Syria
ASLE stands in solidarity with all the people of Turkey and Syria affected by the recent earthquakes, and with the many valued colleagues in our organization who have also been directly and indirectly affected. Those who have survived the devastating earthquake are now facing additional difficulties and challenges, such as the severe winter, as well as inconsolable grief. We encourage the ASLE community to support their recovery by donating to an organization of your choice.

Beyond Utopian Fantasies: Confronting the Environmental Here-and-Now
Sustainability - as a term and a concept - has come into favor in recent years; however, it is not new. Abby L. Goode explores the history of sustainability arguments as well as the tendency for sustainability advocates to imagine utopian spaces - agrotopias - to counter their unsustainable present. Goode invites readers to consider how we might use these ideas differently when keeping their often eugenic and xenophobic histories in mind.

New Episodes of EcoCast
Three new episodes of the ASLE EcoCast podcast have been released in recent months.
If you have an idea for a future episode of ASLE’s EcoCast co-hosts Brandon Galm and Lindsay S.R. Jolivette would love to hear from you. Please submit your proposal via this form.
This month is all about the wonderful world of snails! Lindsay and Brandon are joined by Thom Van Dooren, Deputy Director at the Sydney Environment Institute and an Associate Professor in the School of Humanities at the University of Sydney, Australia. Thom joins EcoCast to discuss his most recent book, A World in a Shell: Snail Stories for a Time of Extinction.
Eleana Kim, professor of anthropology and Asian American studies at UC Irvine, joins Lindsay and Brandon to discuss her work that examines the unique liminal space of the Korean DMZ, and the natural, militaristic, and hybrid ecosystems within it.
Melody Jue joins us to discuss her most recent book Wild Blue Media, and we get below the surface (pun intended) of how important oceans are, the human fascination with them, and how they serve as a space for orientation.
