ASTORIA SUNDAY MARKET VENDOR E-NEWS
Vendor Insurance Options & Info

Dear ASM Vendors,

I am writing about the Astoria Sunday Market’s new policy requiring vendor insurance, which may have come as a surprise to some of you. I want to make sure everyone knows that any new requirement that may add vendor costs is carefully researched and considered. In the case of vendor insurance, we are sincerely sorry to add this extra cost to those of you who do not already have insurance. Insurance is usual in almost all markets of our size, and it is necessary to protect ASM, all vendors, the City, and our customers in the event of an accident. At the end of this email is more information discussing reasons to require insurance and how it protects everybody, including you. Please feel free to reach out to me any time if you have additional questions.

As detailed in the application, the Market now requires each vendor to have a liability insurance policy with a $1M limit per occurrence and name the Market and others as additional insureds. Below, I have compiled several insurance resources specifically designed for craft, farm, and food vendors that will help you to get the insurance and rate that is most appropriate for you. These companies appear to have competitive rates. However, this is not an exclusive list, and feel free to shop other options as long as you meet the minimum requirements.

Thank you so much for being patient and understanding as we are adapting to a new organization/manager/pandemic. Just know that I will do everything I can to make sure this Market is a place that is supportive for you and your business.

*And remember, vendor insurance is not due until 2 weeks before you vend at the Market, so feel free to shop, talk to other people, and confirm your participation before purchasing.

Campbell Risk Management Insurance
Campbell Risk Management has worked closely with the national Farmers Market Coalition to develop a National Farmers Market Vendor Liability Insurance Program. It provides $1,000,000 per occurrence in both commercial and product liability coverage with no deductible and a $2,000,000 annual aggregate limit. Premiums typically run from $275 to $425 per policy year, depending on gross annual farmers market sales. The policy includes coverage for all farmers markets at which a vendor sells and automatically covers the market as an additional insured (for no extra charge).

And please be in touch if you learn of other resources/insight that might be useful for your fellow vendors--I will share the information!
