ASMP Member Feature: Barry Staver
Barry is best known as the “storyteller with a camera,” photographing people and the human condition. Photography is a passion and his one and only career.
His strongest skill is creating a “camera unaware” environment, putting people at ease so he can capture natural images, those special moments that elicit emotional reactions from viewers.
This documentary, reportage style has been commonplace in the editorial world. But corporate, commercial, education, travel, portraiture, and healthcare have embraced this relevant genre, certainly with his approval!
His photographs have earned national and local awards. He’s had two gallery exhibitions and shares a Pulitzer Prize in Journalism. One of his photographs hangs in the Professional Football Hall of Fame. He’s the author of four photography books, taught photojournalism at the university level, led photo workshops, and has served on professional advisory committees. As a Lifetime Member of ASMP, having joined in 1980, he has served as president and treasurer of the Colorado Chapter.
His favorite pastimes include hiking, sailing, scuba diving, 20+ years of practicing yoga (including instructor certification), harmonica playing (getting better with practice), having fun with creative LEGO builds, and exploring infrared photography.

Business to be Gifted to a Minority photographer
Paul Hartmann is planning his retirement and has decided to gift his business to a minority photographer! Currently, he is searching for the right candidate. Paul will be very particular about the person that receives this opportunity. There will be an extensive interview/interning process. After a year or two of working together he will gift them enough lighting equipment, cameras, lenses, etc. so they can continue to serve his clients well. Please let Paul Hartmann know if you are interested, or know someone that has the drive and will to be a professional photographer, but lacks the financial means to make that happen. For more information contact Paul Hartmann at 303 683 8777.

New PPP Loans
The Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) is now reopened. Check with your lender by either contacting them directly or visiting their website to see if they are accepting applications. National did a town hall, recorded on their blog on the changes to the program: As part of the year-end omnibus spending bill signed at the end of 2020, a whole new set of rules and assistance programs were created that significantly change the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), the Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) program, and the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) program. ASMP General Counsel Thomas Maddrey goes over the main changes, how they affect you, and how you can find the help you need from the right program.
