ASMP Foundation:

The Foundation is seeking collaborative partnerships and philanthropic donors, as well as individual contributions from persons who believe in the value of media, art and its practitioners as a force for social good. They are also looking for partners who could benefit from the visual storytelling expertise the foundation and ASMP members represent, and who might be willing to donate to help fund our programs as we move forward.

ASMP Member Feature: Flor Blake

Flor Blake is a portrait photographer specializing in celebrity, personal branding, editorial and commercial work with a style consisting of imaginative, vibrant and dynamic imagery.

Flor grew up in the Caribbean (the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico), where she was naturally surrounded by color, rawness, vivacity and "flavor." These elements greatly influence her work, helping to shape her aesthetic and giving her a greater understanding of the inner workings of design and the creative process.

Flor has made striking portraits of Michelle Obama, Gloria Estefan, Octavia Spencer, Misty Copeland, Gloria Steinem, Julian Castro, Rigoberta Menchú Tum, and many more beautiful faces. She also travels around the world helping her personal branding clients show up spectacularly by creating their dream photoshoots.

She divides her time between Denver, Colorado, and Puerto Rico, where she lives with her wife Ileanexis and their three plants. Find her on Instagram.

In February, we'll have Mock Portfolio Reviews by new ASMP CO board members Flor Blake, Bear Gutierrez and Greg Smith. First you will learn the basics of what should be in your portfolio. This will be followed by small group portfolio reviews with each reviewer.

Attendees, please bring no more than five images. As a group everyone can see how the reviewer critiques each individual's work. Lastly, there will be a chance for group discussion. You can learn more about Flor, Bear and Greg here.

ASMP Colorado Student Scholarship Application

ASMP Colorado is taking applications for our new student scholarship program that supports BIPOC and LGBTQ+ students, paving the way for a successful career in photography and the arts. Four scholarships will be awarded. Each will cover the cost of a one-year student membership to ASMP. We'd like to thank Rick Souders of Souders Studios and Larry Goodwin of Denverphotoscapes for their generous donations to make this possible. If you would like to sponsor a $45 student membership, please email colorado@asmp.org.

ASMP Colorado Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Statement

In response to recent events and a long history that led to them, the ASMP Colorado Board of Directors embarked on a thoughtful conversation about the treatment of Blacks and other marginalized groups in our community. This has led to the crafting of our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion statement and action plan. Many thanks to Paul Weinrauch, our past president and current DEI liaison, for spearheading this important work.

ASMP Colorado Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Statement and Mission

ASMP Colorado stands with the Black community and others against injustice, systemic racism and marginalization of Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC). We condemn racism of any kind.

We have embarked on a long-overdue reckoning with privilege and inequities.

We acknowledge our chapter has not done enough to represent and welcome people of color. We have begun and will continue an open, honest discussion of actions to address oppression and racism in Colorado and in the photographic community. As an organization, we are reaching out to include and advocate for BIPOC communities.

Best of ASMP 2020 Photo Contest

BEST of ASMP is a members-only contest and it is designed to showcase the important work of ASMP members from photos/videos taken between December 1, 2019 and December 31, 2020. Non-members can join ASMP to participate in the contest. Last year ASMP CO had two winners, Steven Begleiter and Howard Paul, with the image featured here. We have some great prizes this year. Be sure to enter today. Hurry! Extended deadline is Wednesday, January 6, 2021.

The CASE Act is Now Law!

On Sunday, December 27, 2020, the President signed into law a bill that includes the Copyright Alternative in Small Claims Enforcement Act (the “CASE Act”). This enactment marks the culmination of a decade-long effort by ASMP and others in the creative community to create a venue where photographers and other creators can protect their rights. Month of Photography

Month of Photography Denver (MoP) is a biennial festival that celebrates the art of photography through public exhibitions and events across the region during the month of March.

For working photographers and artists, the MoP Portfolio Reviews are a highlight of the festival. During this two-day event, up to 72 photographers will have an opportunity to present their work to 30 of the most important people in the national photography community, including museum curators, gallery owners, editors, publishers, nonprofit directors, and other leading professionals. (Due to COVID-19, the 2021 Portfolio Reviews will take place online.) NON STUDENTS SOLD OUT. ONLY THREE SLOTS LEFT FOR STUDENTS.

Find a Photographer Marketing Campaign Image Contest:

This is a tremendous opportunity to be seen by the people we want to hire us. We will select four (4) winning images (one per email) to be included in our next Find A Photographer email marketing campaign. These emails go to advertising agencies, creative & art directors, buyers, and producers in Colorado and the surrounding states!

Please submit up to three (3) of your favorite images that reflect your professional style and vision to: Webmaster@asmpcolorado.org.
Submission deadline extended to January 15, 2021.
Parameters:
The horizontal images must be formatted to 2200 pixels wide
RGB
JPEG format.
Use either your name or your photography business name in the title for copyright/byline information. Example: Tamas_Kish.jpg or Light_and_Sound_LLC.jpg
