ASMP Member Feature: Michael Lichter

Michael Lichter is a Boulder based photographer that in addition to a career as a commercial photographer working out of the same Boulder studio for 38-years, has developed a reputation photographing motorcycles and motorcycle culture since the 1970’s. His motorcycle work has taken him around the country and over the past year and a half, on shoots to Nepal, Italy, Germany, Japan, and just before the shutdown, to Siberia. His work regularly appears in magazines around the world in which more than a thousand features on custom bikes, events and culture have been published. This is also the work that he exhibits and that has gone into his 11 coffee table books. A member of ASMP since 1989, Michael served as president of our Colorado chapter for three years and on the board for five in the 1990s. You can f ollow Michael on Instagram:  @michaellichterphotography , and on Facebook .

The CASE Act needs your support to become law

Calling all photographers: Please click here to help the ASMP National Summer CASE Act campaign by using ASMP’s easy online tools to send emails to Senators Michael Bennet and Cory Gardner asking them to support the CASE Act. Then call to tell them their constituents want them to cosponsor the CASE Act, S. 1273.

After passing in the House of Representatives on a vote of 410-6, action in the Senate is still being blocked by Senator Ron Wyden, of Oregon.

ASMP has been working aggressively to overcome this obstacle and bring the CASE Act up for a vote. ASMP Colorado has directly contacted staff members of Sens. Bennet and Gardner, asking them to sign on as cosponsors. We have made some headway with Sen. Bennet’s office but we need to keep the pressure on.
We are running out of time. You can help push the CASE Act along and it only takes a minute.

New! ASMP CO Mentorship Program

ASMP Colorado has officially launched its Mentorship and Internship programs. As a Professional or Life member of the chapter, you are in a unique position to share your experience and advice with those seeking photography career guidance in a more formal setting.

Those who are interested in mentoring or being mentored may contact the coordinator, Paul Trantow, at paul@altitudearts.com. At that point the mentee and the chapter take a few steps to select a good mentor, who may be you. Any Professional or Life member may be contacted for mentorship in the future.

What’s involved: Video or phone calls and emails for six months to set the mentee on the right path to their goals, which may be technical, professional, business or otherwise.

That term may be extended if deemed appropriate. Afterward, you’ll answer a few questions, so your mentorship gets recorded and recognized. That’s it!

We thank you for taking part, and look forward to seeing this program through.
Take Advantage of Find A Photographer

If you've had a chance to sift through your images and fine tune your portfolio during this pandemic, now's the time to populate or refresh your Find A Photographer (FAP) page available to all Professional members. Our organization is investing in SEO for this listing and you could be receiving leads right now when you need them most.

FAP is a national database used by clients across the country to locate shooters wherever they have a job - mostly editorial and advertorial with lots of marketing and events.

If you haven’t created or updated your page, do it today! Start at  ASMP.org  > login >
For Members > My Profile > Edit Find A Photographer

PS—There are a lot of out-of-date pages without key images. If yours is one, you may be able to upload larger files and select a key image. Questions? Ask  paul@altitudearts.com

Self-Portraits and Stories from the Pandemic

Adrienne DeLoe wanted to create a space on social media for people to share, through self-portraits, what they are going through as we navigate this difficult time. "I was thinking about what my experience through all of this would look like as depicted in a self-portrait and wanted to create a platform for people who are interested to do the same," says Adrienne.
Follow the project and contribute a self-portrait here on Facebook and Instagram .

Sources of Self-Regard

These are self-portraits and stories from black photographers published on NYTimes.com, followed by an essay from Deborah Willis. Willis is a chair and professor of photography in the Department of Photography and Imaging, Tisch School of the Arts, New York University. She writes, " These self-portraits fuse together uncertainty, loneliness, dislocation, joy and discovery, and the results make for deeply insightful storytelling. See the images and essay here:
