ASMP Member Feature: Jennifer Olson
A Kodak 110 Instamatic camera given to her by her mother when Jennifer Olson was 8 is all it took to get her hooked. Jennifer moved around a lot when she was a kid, so the camera became her tool to document and remember the people she met and places that they had been. Her first job was as a “sandwich artist” at Subway. At the time, she loved the social aspect of the food business most. When she pursued an education at Evergreen State College, Jennifer found herself gravitating toward photography even more, paying her bills by working in the restaurant business. She received her degree in photography and gained most of her experience through hands-on training with two different portrait photographers, both during college and after graduation. As assistant and studio manager, she learned to work with people and how to run a business. Once she graduated from college, she carved out a nice little career in the restaurant business, working all aspects in the front of the house at some of the best restaurants in Denver. Take 13 years in the restaurant business and a degree in photography, and what you get is a foodie who loves to photograph food.
When Jennifer left the restaurant business, she independently published a best-selling cookbook, Colorado Organic. Since then, she has been loving every minute, making a career of food and lifestyle photography. Jennifer primarily does commercial food photography, working with clients such as Noodles & Company, Starbucks, Noosa Yoghurt, and Teton Waters Ranch. She also works on product photography with Press Pause, Kettle Chips, Two Leaves and A Bud tea, to name a few. She absolutely loves editorial work for Colorado Homes and Lifestyles magazine, Mountain Living and The Scout Guide Denver. Along with publishing her own cookbook, she has also worked on No Gluten, No Problem; Wild Winemaking; and the Lucky’s Bakehouse Holiday cookbook.
Give her a hot room to practice yoga and a lazy Sunday afternoon to chill with her 9-year-old daughter, and she’s a happy camper. She loves springtime, a great glass of rosé and has an affinity for salty snacks. Her studio is in the TAXI Community of sunny Denver, Colorado.

ASMP CO Mask Policy for In-Person Events
As of July 1, 2021, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) encourages people who are not fully vaccinated to wear masks in public indoor spaces to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Local communities and businesses may have additional mask restrictions. CDPHE encourages all Coloradans to keep masks with them in public and wear them if asked out of respect. Fully vaccinated people can go without masks in public indoor spaces unless the setting requires otherwise. ASMP Colorado will follow local and venue guidelines for all in-person events.
