Colorado Chapter supports ASMP National

ASMP Colorado is financially in very good shape. We have money in the bank and, unfortunately, no expensive projects coming up.

At its May meeting, our chapter’s Board of Directors voted to give $1000 of our chapter allotment back to National to help keep up the great work.

ASMP National has been doing an outstanding job of supporting our members during the pandemic. A series of weekly  Town Hall  web meetings began immediately with Executive Director Tom Kennedy, ASMP General Counsel Tom Maddrey and ASMP Advocacy Counsel Mike Klipper on March 20. Since then our National crew has offered one every Friday, with important business-saving information on disaster funding, liability, and “new ways” of shooting. ASMP has also offered eleven ASMP  Strictly Business COVID-19 Webinars  to help members get through and survive.

At the same time ASMP has suffered a significant drop in revenue with photographers not renewing their membership. At one point Tom Kennedy, at the close of a Friday Town Hall, asked each participant if they could donate $5 to ASMP.

We challenge the other 38 ASMP chapters to give back to National what they can afford, so we can all keep this great organization going.

ASMP Member Feature: Paul Gomez

Over the past ten years Paul Gomez, owner & commercial photographer at Gray Box Studios , has worked with large global clients and small local startups alike, photographing apparel, beauty, tech, culinary, beer, outdoor gear and much more. He excels at creating stunning imagery using artificial light in the studio but is also comfortable shooting on location and incorporating natural light when necessary. He loves the wide range of projects he works on and enjoys the fact that “each project presents new challenges which inspire me to learn and try new things every time I shoot.”

Paul Gomez is a Colorado native whose love for photography came relatively late in life. His enthusiasm for photographing automobiles and motorcycles lead him to Brooks Institute where he earned a degree in Professional Photography with an emphasis in Commercial Photography. After graduating with a BA, he started Gray Box Studios, specializing in product, food/beverage and architecture photography. Paul also enjoys teaching and spent time as an adjunct instructor at the Community College of Aurora where he taught basic Photoshop and photography courses.

New! ASMP CO Mentorship Program

ASMP Colorado has officially launched its Mentorship and Internship programs. As a Professional or Life member of the chapter, you are in a unique position to share your experience and advice with those seeking photography career guidance in a more formal setting.

Those who are interested in mentoring or being mentored may contact the coordinator, Paul Trantow, at paul@altitudearts.com. At that point the mentee and the chapter take a few steps to select a good mentor, who may be you. Any Professional or Life member may be contacted for mentorship in the future.

What’s involved: Video or phone calls and emails for six months to set the mentee on the right path to their goals, which may be technical, professional, business or otherwise.

That term may be extended if deemed appropriate. Afterward, you’ll answer a few questions, so your mentorship gets recorded and recognized. That’s it!

We thank you for taking part, and look forward to seeing this program through.
Take Advantage of Find A Photographer

Did you know that all Professional-level members get a free Find A Photographer page? And most haven’t taken advantage of it!

Find A Photographer is a national database used by clients across the country to locate shooters wherever they have a job - mostly editorial and advertorial with lots of marketing and events. These shoots come along fairly regularly for those of us who bother to update our pages.

If you haven’t created or updated your page, do it today! Start at  ASMP.org  > login >
For Members > My Profile > Edit Find A Photographer

PS—There are a lot of out-of-date pages without key images. If yours is one, you may be able to upload larger files and select a key image. Questions? Ask  paul@altitudearts.com
LET'S HELP MAKE THE CASE ACT BECOME A LAW

Take a moment to help pass the Case Act by contacting Senator Wyden to release his hold and Colorado Senators Bennett and Gardner to become co sponsors of the act. Two easy steps on the ASMP National Site.
