Please consider what you can bring the table, and contact Katie Warnke, Katie@GreenEarthPhotography.com, to learn more - or fill out a quick board application.
ASMP Member Feature: Jen Magnuson

Jen Magnuson, of Jen Magnuson Photography, typically needs to shower more after a shoot than before, as her work as an outdoor adventure and action sports lifestyle photographer takes her sometimes deep into wilderness areas in all seasons and all weather. Headquartered in the bustling metropolis of Mancos, Colorado, she has fast access to some of the most beautiful locations in the Four Corners Region, though occasionally she is delayed getting out of the canyon by a cattle drive, also known as a “Mancos traffic jam." She has shot assignments and campaigns for clients including REI, Race Across America, Alpacka Rafts, Next Mile Meals, The National Forest Foundation, and the National Education Association, and has had work featured in Bicycling, VeloNews, Business Insider, Your National Forest, and NEA Today. Her favorite kind of assignment is one that lands her in challenging conditions with less than ideal light saying, "It’s easy to make something awesome, when conditions are in your favor. I’m most proud of the work I produce when I have to problem solve on the fly and mine a beautiful shot out of a scene that doesn’t immediately look like a portfolio worthy spot.” Jen has also served on the Board of ASMP Colorado in various capacities since 2017, and is currently serving as Vice President. Her work can be seen at jenmagnusonphoto or on Instagram @jenmagphoto, though she is terrible at updating her social media.

Getting Proper Releases is More Than a Good Idea; It’s Essential

By Kathryn Wagner

ASMP Colorado marketing chair

This is the second of a series of articles ASMP Colorado is posting here and on our website to support photographers on their quest for a successful photography business. If you'd like to submit article ideas or write one yourself, please email us at colorado@asmp.org.

As the owner of a photography or other service-oriented business, you must do all you can to maintain and manage professional relationships.

It’s essential everyone involved clearly understands your goals for a photograph. How that picture will be used is only part of the equation. You also must ensure you have written consent to reproduce for commercial purposes the likeness of an image’s subject. Such permission should be clearly stated in a legal document, called a “release.”

The best practice for a commercial photographer is to have on hand a collection of releases for the various situations you encounter. I am a photographer, not a lawyer. But I have crafted and used releases regularly. With this article, I want to help you on your road to success.
