Afterschool Program is Back in Action!

Happy Fall, y'all! As the leaves begin to change and the temperatures cool, we're excited to update you on the first few weeks of another fantastic season of our afterschool program as well as some other CAN happenings! It's that time of year when we get back into the rhythm of learning, growing, and making deeper connections. As we head into the colder months, we're looking forward to all the community gatherings to come, and creating lasting memories together. Thank you for continuing on this journey of togetherness and growth with us!

CAN's New In-House CPR Instructor

Ensuring our staff are CPR trained is a pivotal piece of keeping our students safe while attending our programs. To ensure we provide a quality training tailored to the needs of CAN families, we will now be providing this directly to our staff. Our very own, Torey Madura (Director of Hikone Community Center), is persuing a certification as a CRP/AED/First Aid Instructor! As a member of CAN's "Safety Force", a team dedicated to ensuring health and safety plans are in place at CAN, Torey also attended the Washtenaw Opioid Summit and is working on harm reduction efforts like stocking our emergency food pantries with Narcan! Go Torey!

Sustainable Connections

CAN's Sustainability team recently attended the Green Fair, an annual event where people can learn about and share all the ways that Ann Arbor and local agencies are advancing their sustainability efforts. This event is such a great way to make connections as well as inform community members of all the great sustainability work that is taking place right in our city and surrounding areas. Thanks to The City of Ann Arbor's Office of Sustainability and Innovations, CAN's Bryant Community Center has a brand new cargo bike, which Nimsi was sporting at the event! The bike has been used to deliver food to residents of the Bryant neighborhood in an eco-friendly fashion as well as conduct outreach for the Bryant Sustainability Project!

CROP Hunger Walk - 10/15!

Mark your calendars! The 49th Annual CROP Hunger Walk will be hosted at Zion Lutheran Church on Sunday, October 15, 2023. Every Fall since 1975, local congregations and organizations have walked together with a common mission: to help the food insecure and under-resourced families here and throughout the world. Proceeds from the walk will benefit 11 local agencies, including CAN!

Please consider registering or making a donation here:  https://events.crophungerwalk.org/2023/event/annarbormi

Day-of registration begins at 1pm, and the group send-off is at 2pm. You may also complete the walk in your own neighborhood!
