Fake FMCG products increasing

The recent news published in  media raises concern for FMCG companies. In last week, Fake Cheese & Ghee factory seized in Muradabad (Uttar Pradesh) and Jaipur (Rajasthan) while surprise raids in Haryana lead to arrest of 210 people involved in making of fake Ghee and cooking Oil. Addressing the impact, few FMCG companies are gearing up to fight against this menace. Big FMCG brands have announced adoption of authentication solutions to empower consumer against fighting fakes. Recently, Cargill Foodd India has introduced new anti-counterfeiting technology in its one of popular regional brand - Gemini Cooking Oil. Nestle introduced a security seal designed to protect its Nescafe cofee brand with seal of authenticity. Similarly, GEF India used a 3D holographic stamp, for its freedom brand of refined sunflower oil. Its a good start but lot more to be done by FMCG companies when counterfeit and smuggled goods account for more than a fifth of the FMCG market.

NAFDAC wants Nigerians to participate in fight against fake, substandard foods, drugs 

NAFDAC urged Nigerians to join in the fight against fake and sub-standard foods, drugs and cosmetic products. The acting Director-General of NAFDAC, Mrs Yetunde Oni, made the call during an awareness campaign against fake and sub-standard food and drug products at the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) Orientation Camp in Awgu near Enugu.

Mahindra & Mahindra Raids Auto Part Makers to Counter Fake Products

Mahindra & Mahindra, country's leading utility vehicle manufacturer, said it conducted raids across six auto spare part makers and sales outlets in the country, to counter the 'ever-growing' threat of counterfeit products. The company seized more than a thousand items from raids conducted jointly with the police at shops, traders, packing and manufacturing units in northern India. For more click here

Kochi Metro: RFID ticketing gets a thumps up

For many who had travelled in Metros in big cities like Delhi, the travel in Kochi Metro was more enjoyable. The use of less expensive disposable paper tickets with RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) in place of tokens as in Delhi Metro got a thumps up from commuters. “The paper tickets are much easier to carry and the chance of them getting lost during journey is minimal.  For more click here

Spurious, expired medicines worth Rs10 crore seized in Patna
